Did they allow smoking of cigs. on the patio and just stopped you from smoking a cigar or they didn't allow smoking of anything out on their patio?
Now I know you Fairfield County guys don't know your way around the rest of the state :r but there's a great place in Middletown called Eli Cannon's Tap Room that has an outdoor patio and they let people smoke cigars there.

I'm a Stamford native now living in Norwalk. Born in 1950. We ended up going out that night in Stamford's South End. There are two nice restaurants in a corporate park that have outdoor bars overlooking a marina, which is where we smoked. They are the Paradise Cafe & The Crab Shell. I'm sure they have web sites.
The setup @ the Paradise is more conducive to cigar smoking. Personally, I would be uncomfortable smoking cigars @ the Crab Shell because it usually very crowded with a live band frequently performing. There is much "eye candy" at both places. Check them out if you're ever in the area.

Eli's is a great place, use to live across the bridge in Portland. Too many beers to pick from and great fried pickles.
You could drive to PA. Although they say our smoking ban is coming in a few months anyways.
