First Winter with my Humidor

Hello everyone, I'm at a lost about whats happening w/my humidor. I'm sure some of the Gorillas will have the answers!:tu Here are the basic: I have a 100ct humidor w/about 75 sticks inside. It is properly seasoned and has been working fine for about 3 months. I use a Paradigm (PSH3) humidifier. The problem is the humidity went for 70% to 61%, a % or two a day. I removed my sticks and re-seasoned humidor and everything was fine. Well a week later it's starting to do the same thing again. I salt tested my hygrometer (it's digital), and I did the flashlight test, no leaks. Oh the % inside the room that the humidor is kept is reading 20%. HELP!!!!

In real dry weather, I have to wet my beads every few days to keep the humidity up. You could also try adding a second humidifier. (more beads!)

I usually place a small shot glass with distilled water toward the back of the humi. I seems to keep the humidity constant. To keep the water from growing mold or anything, I'll put a couple of drops of vodka in the water.

It works well and the cigars don't pick up any flavor of the vodka. I live in the desert and that seems to help. The humidity seems to keep at about 65% with the beads and the shot glass.:tu

Here are some tips to prepare your humidor for the coming winter. I've not used it personally, but the guy seems to know what he's doing.

You could also get a humidifier for the room the humidor is in....20% is really low....I thought the 35-40% humidity we get is bad.

Don't worry to much about it.

We all go through some sort of trouble at some part of the year. Just keep up what you are doing and you will be fine. All hydros are off 1 or 2 decibals.

The readings that you are getting are fine anyway. Don't sweat it and enjoy your cigars.

when i turn out the heat in the house the room RH always drops, just a standard winter thing-since i use more beads than necessary anyhow, it doesn't affect me much

Here is what I did.

1. Buy big ass cooler.
2. Put humidor in cooler.
3. Close lid.

Goodbye humidity problems.
