CS,
I'm getting ready to test the new Lancero and Robusto HSG. I will report back in the Retail section if I like them. We will have to add them to the website.
Rob

Taboo is my next cigar purchase. Never had one but everybody say's good things about them.

Keep up the good work!!!

If any of you guys are local, come by for some free HSG smokes. We are smoking the New HSG and we have discovered very little to no difference in the HSG (other than Taboo cost much less!)
and the Oliva V's!
I know this is a bold statement, my friends, but I have several customers in the store with a HSG in one hand and an Oliva V in the other and we are stunned.
I made a very slight change in this blend and this was unintentional, but this is what we have now.
I will post in the Retail section asap after we add the HSG Robusto and Lancero to our website. I am pulling the remainder of the old HSG from the shelf. We are only shipping HSG's from this new shipment.
We have to smoke more. I need just a little more time here.
Amazing:ss
Rob

We are noticing a difference in the ash color, that is it.
This was totally unintentional. Looks like my inventory issue with
Oliva V is over.
We will continue to smoke and report back. :ss

I'm still a little shocked right now......sorry
Rob

Ok,
I cut open an Oliva V and the new HSG. First of all, I have to let you guys know some of this blend may be in you humi. If you have a darker brown HSG vs the lighter old HSG, you have it.

This is what I see:

Wrapper: same tobacco
Binder: Taboo Rosado, V more of a claro
Filler: no difference. Same seed different farm. Both in Nicarauga.

cost: Taboo much less, of course.

Like I said, this was not intentional. As I was smoking the Lancero and the more I smoked it, I was noticing it tasted so much like the V. Some customers came in and I passed out some HSG and some V's. The rest is history.
They are not 100% identical, but very very close.
Try an HSG with coffee, should go very well.
I am also hearing the Twist goes very nice with a red wine??

Next Report will be in the Retail section after we update website on the HSG.
Thanks for the support CS
Rob

Wow, I just looked through your site; last time I looked, you didn't have anything under 50 RG. Glad to see that that's changing! Wasn't aware of the Special Forces Lancero or Twist PC.

Yes, I listen to my customers. We originally had and are very successful with the larger rings here in TX. After taking Taboo to the internet, my mail order customers wanted smaller rings and I listened. More to come, my friend. Thanks to all of you for your feedback.

I recommended free Porsches instead of free lighters but Rob won't listen to me. :ss

Must be why he's a businessman and I'm not!

Isn't the HSG more of a sweeter mellow blend vs the Oliva V which is a ligero peppery/spicy smoke?

We have definitely gone with the Habano Sun Grown wrapper. (The darker of the two wrappers that a few of you may have noticed on the HSG) The Taboo Nic. Binder is darker than the V and I do believe the V has a little more pepper 1/3 the way through the cigar. This may be the age difference because they appear to have about the same amount of ligero in the filler if you cut them open. Yes, you are correct, I would have to say this HSG Taboo is slightly mellower than the V. They did just come off the truck today though. Smoking the two side by side today, it was tough to tell much of a difference.

So far I agree with the local customers they taste darn near the same. With a little age on the HSG, we may see the slight differences go away.

I have taken the Taboo HSG inventory off our website until further testing is complete. All the local HSG customers were very pleased today. I do not want to sell them until we update the HSG portion of the website and the descriptions are accurate.

You will definitely notice a little more flavor in these HSG. Only minor differences were made in the blend to bump the flavor. Most of the Taboo have loads of flavor and I was not extremely excited about the HSG as it was. I know I had several customers that liked it and I know 99% of them will like the minor difference I made.

I will be back Sunday night or Monday to give you guys the final verdict. Don't worry about the 25% coupon expiring if you wanted to buy some of these great cigars. I will always take care of my Customers and especially my Friends at CS.

The HSG we received today were rolled June 4th. Time will tell, but I can usually tell you what the Taboo will taste like from the time they come off the truck until two and four weeks later. I smoke toooooo many cigars! But I seem to have the talent for this kind of thing.:D

Ok, so I am at the shop. I was going to take today off, but I wake up at 5am thinking about this. I tell myself I am absolutely crazy!:D The V has to be stronger/diffferent than the HSG. Even though there are some similarities between the tobaccos, they are from different farms in Nic. We smoked way too many Taboo SFO yesterday around here and we must have been high, or at least I was. Anyway, I can't taste anything after I smoke a SFO. I know this for a fact. The initial customer that was smoking the HSG with me yesterday, also was smoking a SFO. He must have been high too. Remember, I love the Oliva Family. They make four of the Taboo Blends and they are not only great people but their QC and consistency is outstanding. They do NOT make this HSG blend.

So, this is a new day. I have not had a SFO or any cigar and I'm ready. Before I start smoking this morning, this is what I do know. Since 4/1/08 we have had some HSG with this Habano Sun Grown wrapper in circulation. Most all the reviews I have seen on the Hsg since then had to be this wrapper. I never heard much about this cigar until I had the factory put this wrapper on the HSG back at the end of March. The HSG never had enough flavor to satisfy me so I slipped in a darker wrapper (Habano Sun Grown) and nobody really said anything about the darker wrapper. I finally started to hear more reviews/feedback on this stick after doing so.
The Taboo HSG is nutty nutty. I'm going to smoke the V first. A DBL Robusto.
I'm lighting the DRob V right now.................
Heavy pepper on initial light. Burn in the nose.
mellowing out 3/4" into it
starting to notice the coffee and chocolate
ref to oliva site:
http://olivacigar.com/serie_v_oliva_cigar.aspx
To me this cigar was full body only on the initial lighting of the cigar.

For those that don't know my personal taste, I do not like mild cigars. Occasionally I will have one if it has more flavor than most mild cigars, but only early in the day. This cigar is mild to me, but so is the HSG. (I don't blend all the Taboo to my taste)

The more I smoke this V, the milder it gets. Definite chocolate. Where is the spice?

1/2 way through the DRob V. mild-med. chocolate with a slight slight spice. There is no nutty flavor, so how could this taste like the HSG? The SFO originals I smoked yesterday may have really threw me off.

Keep in mind that a mild-med for me could easily be med-full for most.

Ok, this stick is getting f. I'm done with this stick. I am going to smoke the DBL TORO V, this is the one we were smoking yesterday......I do not ever smoke the V's. I always considered them to mild for me. (flavor and strength)

Picking up the DBL Toro now........

Not near the heavy spice upon lighting this cigar as present in the Dbl Robusto. Slight spice, but went away very quick.
This is what I remember about the V. All the sizes smoked different. I did not like the V until I smoked the Lancero. I did like the Lancero flavor the best. Still not a cigar for me, but I thought is was a great cigar for those that like a milder cigar. There is nothing wrong with this cigar for those that like mild to maybe med cigars.

1/2"
The DR definitely had more flavor/body initially. There is no nutty flavor in the V. More chocolate/coffee like they say on their site. More coffee than chocolate in this one. Very slight on the coffee taste though. The slight coffee taste may be what was similar to the HSG. Not tasting the chocolate here.

Over 1 1/2" into this stick and I just taste tobacco. Not for me right now. Starting to realize why I don't smoke these. We all have different taste. This may be great to several of you out there. No bad or bitter taste, just not for me. My palate was definitely fuc.. yesterday. I you smoke a Taboo SFO, you will know that you really can't smoke anything after that and get an accurate description on any cigar. Usually can't taste anything. The SFO is so full of flavor, you can't smoke anything afterwards. At least in the same day.

I'm done with this V. If you are not a true full body smoker, you may not agree with anything I said so far. Now on to the HSG Toro 6x58.

I just reviewed the HSG review thread.
HSG Review:
http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=140628
I noticed the first post was on 3/2/08. No mention of a nutty taste. Remember I told you about the wrapper change around 4/1/08. There were mentions of a nutty taste until after 4/1. I think the first one was 4/30. "Nutty sex explosion"? Then again on 6/9, "Nutty, Nutty, Nutty Goodness".

Lighting the 6x58 HSG...........

HSG 6x58:
1/2": NUTTY NUTTY, slight coffee, cedar/earthy with a slight slight spice. Just as Scott said in the thread above on 3/2 except with a very nutty taste added.

1" same flavors continue........

I see why I have been hearing (a lot lately) why folks have been saying this cigar goes great with their morning coffee or Cappuccino
.

This cigar is great if you enjoy a mild-med cigar with a lot of flavor.
This stick is mild to me but could easily be med to others.

2" into this stick, flavors are holding steady..........

Ok, after smoking a Taboo SFO (or several SFO's), all cigars could taste the same!:r

The slight coffee taste in this cigar is the only thing that I can see similar to the V. With the added majority nutty taste, this cigar is much more enjoyable.

still smoking...........
