Funny Site-Fake Cigars

This is pretty humorous. I have never seen a site like this. It's so blatant!

Heres another one in Oregon. AKA Colin Kelly
The below link is of Google's cache on some goings on in the past.

last winter i was in boardman, ohio herfing with some people from icg. one of the locals mentioned there was a shop selling isoms. after spending the afternoon herfing, sirwinston and i went over to check out the shop. sure enough, on one side of the walk-in was a shelf full of fake isoms... in boxes and banded. the owner walked in and told us all cigars on the isom wall were $10. i asked him how he could sell these and he replied he had a lot more where that came from. i didn't push the matter any further becuase it became apparent we were in some kind of mafia set up. in fact, there were a bunch of goons sitting around smoking in the lobby. i think sirwinstion and i realized at the same time this was not a nice place to be and we wanted to get out... of course we had to buy something. i bought a fake pam, sirwinston bought a fake cao... they were both $4 exactly, the guy didn't ring it up and he gave us change from his pocket. i wanted to check out the fake isoms a bit more but i was too paranoid. it was the first time i was glad to leave a cigar shop.

pretty blatant alright and they missrepresent themselves totaly(imo)until you get to the "about us" page.then you see there is nothing from cuba except expat rollers.
derrek :7

And you get one guess as to where Colin Kelly gets a lot of his cigars he sells as "Cubans."

Say "cigarmaker.com" and the duck comes down and you win $50. ;-)

(Apologies to Groucho Marx for the above paraphrased line.)

You gave the wrong web address for this outfit. The correct address: www.cigarfakers.com/counterfeiters/trademarkinfringers/morons.

While I think they are a bunch of dickheads selling an over-priced, sub-standard product, I don't think they really misrepressent themselves. Any adult citizen of the USA, who hasn't been in a Rip Van Winkle sleep for the last 40+ years, knows that it is a violation of US law to import Cuban products into this country. Common sense (that's the problem) dictates they cannot be legit. Any American company selling the real thing on the net would be arrested, tried, convicted and subjected to stiff fines and their officers a trip to begin their new career as a "wide receiver" in a federal prison.

The reason they get away with it is because they are NOT manufacturing, importing or selling Cuban cigars.

Personally, I feel that anyone who buys from them gets what they deserve and should not be allowed to vote, drive a vehicle or breed.....because they are TOO F*&^%$G STOOOOOOOOPID!!!

Of course, that's jmho. :+

[updated:LAST EDITED ON May-12-02 AT 05:30 PM (CDT)]Let's cut the crap and get to the "Introduction To Ethics" issues that these websites pose. The retailers cited above made a moral decision to cheat their customers by misrepresenting the non-Cuban cigars they are selling as Cuban cigars. It's just that simple. The intelligence, whatever it may be, of the people who are victimized by these scams is irrelevent. Further, I would never presume to possess such an infinite knowledge of the universe as to be able to proclaim someone "stupid" solely on the basis of their having purchased fake Cuban cigars. And as for prohibiting people who buy phony Cuban cigars from driving, voting or breeding, you must please excuse me if I am unable to comprehend either the logic or the morality of that notion. To conclude, I shall save my ire for the victimizers. And, in light of the fact that we humans by virtue of our very nature are fallible beings, try not to be too quick to judge anyone solely on the basis of the mistakes they make.

jdancingkid...

I do not condone this company in any way. I've tried a couple of their "Cuban" smokes and they do NOT taste like Cubans, and are not, imho, very good cigars. However, I believe you need to go back and re-read my previous post.

1) I did not say ALL people who buys fakes fall into the category of stupid. Most of us have been "had" at one time or another by someone passing off fakes as the real thing; either by an overseas retailer or a private individual (overseas or here). My point was that people who buy "Cuban" cigars from a company which is based in the USA (the opening page title of their site says "Cuban Habanos USA") have to be daft. There is no way on God's earth a USA-based company advertising on the web, selling real Cubans, would escape the wrath of the Feds. That is flat common sense.

2) They state on their "About Us" page quite clearly, in a sentence all by itself, "Our Tobacco comes from Cuban seed grown by us in different countries." Anyone who can't read that and understand what it means is not using their head. Also on that page, their opening line states, "South Beach Cigar Factory. The official house of the Cuban cigar in the U.S.A based out of Miami Beach Florida...." That's pretty clear to me that they are a USA-based company and no way could they stay in business without being arrested if they were selling real Cuban cigars. Again, that is just common sense.

3) Of course, no reasonable person would deny someone their basic human rights or rights as citizens based upon their buying from the site in question. My comments about driving, voting, breeding were made to drive home my points; i.e. making fun of people who think they can buy real Cuban cigars from a USA-based company. It wasn't meant to be taken that seriously.

4) Rest Thy Sphincter.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON May-13-02 AT 06:53 PM (CDT)]Jdancingkid,

You need to cool yourself down and realize the whole point flipflop was making. And do yourself a favor, drop this "why can't we all get along and who am I to make a judgement" moniker; have convictions and live by them. Let's expound upon the scenario and look at the point Phil was making:

Say you go to a car dealership and pay $30,000 for a $15,000 automobile. The rest of the normal society is not going to consider you a victim, they are going to call you an uninformed buyer and hope you learn your lesson. If you do it again, then you ARE an idiot. Kind of goes back to the old cliche "Screw me once and shame on you, screw me twice and shame on me."

I can promise you Flipflop never presumes to know the makeup of the universe, but he comes damn close. He knows people and he knows common sense, which is becoming rather scarce this day and age. I can tell you this, as a friendly gesture, before you get on here and trash or lecture someone about his/her convictions and/or opinions, I would think twice about whom you are trying to instill pearls of wisdom. This whole thing by him was not an attack, merely fun in humor. That's all..

Kindest Regards,
Justin

Why am I always causing trouble? I meant this simply as a fun little diversion. I think it's apparent that these guys are scammers, and found their brazeness amusing. That is all. I hope we are all still friends, as I do NOT want to start any trouble on this wonderful board (those of you who have been here a long while know that I did this once and have regretted it ever since, as I offended a really nice man for no reason).

Steve,

No no no..you didn't create anything. Its just, as usual, someone took Flipflop out of context and took it personal..You have nothing to worry about. Neither does Jdancingkid, its just Flipflop's post was taken wayyyy to seriously.

Justso and edisonbird...

To paraphrase Prof. Henry Higgins..."By jove, I think you've got it!" :+

Appreciate your comments Justin.

Amazing that the airports are overstocked with agents looking for "Cuban" cigars and they can't even put a guy like this out of business.

Mafia cigar shop? Scary thought.:-(

Lists of folks with bad raps. A current site for Habanos R Us.

Well if you want to talk ethics, I actually know some people, who know some people who buy products illegal in the USA, and have them imported for their own consumption! Talk about ethics, these folks are willingly violating US Goverment laws! ;)

Throw stones...glass houses...now what was that my mother said again?
