Good place to hang out in Austin, TX?

I'm going to be in Austin, TX this week for a business conference. Will have some free time.

What should I do/see while I'm there?

I've heard the city has a good music scene? Can anyone recommend a good club/pub where cigar smoking is welcomed?

I am sure if Muziq, WillieGstyles or some of the other Austinites see this they will be able to steer you in the right direction.

In both Austin and Round Rock, you are no longer allowed to smoke inside bars. Fortunately, this is the perfect time of the year to find a good pub and smoke out on the patio. If you hit South Congress, try the Habana House for some good Cuban food, a good atmosphere, and the patio should be a good way to spend an hour or two. Just a little further down the road is the Ruta Maya coffee house, with a cigar shop inside. Most cigar shops still allow smoking inside them.

Good luck

If you can be a little more specific, we can help out better. How old are you? Which kind of crowd do you like to hang with? Do you want to eat there, too? What kind of music do you like? Do you have a car? Which area of town you are staying in?

In Travis county you cannot smoke cigars indoors. Woodrow's is just outside. There are some pubs/breweries on Barton Springs where one sits outside nicely, like in a biergarten.

For music, Stubb's, The Continental Club and Club de Ville are famous. Heath (muziq), as the name indicates is quite the music expert and can certainly point you in the right direction. He is very helpful. Shoot him a PM.

For music there is almost too much to choose from in Austin! Antone's is a legendary music venue. Pick up a copy of the Austin Chronicle for a more comprehensive list. Waterloo Records is a good source for Texas music on cd.

The Gingerman for a good pint of beer and I think you could smoke out on the patio. They used the even hold a cigar tasting night.

Chuy's is a must for some quality Tex-Mex food.
