The Grumpy Old Troll
Diamond deal

Two years ago, Tom Jacob started planning a cigar lounge for his Cigar Chateau shop.

Then last year, the J.C. Newman Cigar Co. of Tampa, Fla., approached him about having the first Diamond Crown Cigar Lounge designation in the country.

"I would have loved to have been the first one," Jacob says.

But he had to wait and see what would happen with Wichita's smoking laws first.

Now, he's preparing for a mid-October opening of his new Chateau at 3045 N. Rock Road next to where his Jacob Liquor Exchange is moving in early October.

His shop will be one of 45 nationally to have the Diamond designation.

"It establishes a degree of quality all over the country when they have these," Jacob says. "People who travel would know then that they would have a place to go."

The new shop will be 3,200 square feet with separate retail and lounge areas.

With fewer places for cigar smokers to visit, Jacob says he's offering another option.

The shop will have a 600-square-foot walk-in humidor and temperature-controlled wine storage lockers.

The lounge will have a flat-screen TV, and eventually Jacob will have an outdoor patio as well.

"They can do business, sit around and talk, have meetings -- whatever they want to do," Jacob says.

"It's a way for people to enjoy premium smoking cigars," he says,"... and know that they're in a place that cares about them."

Are you freaking serious!? I am going to assume that they are only going to use a portion of that space as it was massive. On the other hand, hopefully they will drop about 20 pool tables in there, man, it would be sweet to have a good pool hall around here again.
