Hands Up if CS did this to you too...

Pipes!! Oh my Lord like it wasnt bad enough, there wasnt quite enough Pledge sprayed on the slope to get me down it fast enough. Its not all Club Stogies (aghm, your) fault, while two of my brothers are great herf buddies (though stubborn in their 7/11-ass ways) my very close bro (the Robot Chicken animating one) is big in to pipes ever since i bought him a Meer_____m churchwarden a few years ago. actually this is silly but (for the irony factor) heres the only picture i have of him:

ANYwayThe man above decided to pay it forward (whatever the hell that means) and he gifted me this beautiful 'starter kit'. (God please let it stay this size, and letith it not need cabintree nor pipe rackiths in thy future, thank you, Tonto Loco)

So i did want to ask anyone who likes cigars and pipes what they think of the tobacco gifted below and what they think i should start out with to begin to understand the different blends etc. I learned a lot from Nooners thread in the pipes forum so thanks there and to everyone who contributed!

Davidoff (?Standard or Medium? not pictured)
Davidoff Royality
Dunhill: Aperitif, Early Morning, Nightcap, 3 year matured VIR & English blend (medium, not pictured)
Peterson Irish Oak
CAO Liberty
CAO Independence

cheers :al

Never smoked a pipe and never had a real interest in them in the past. I must admit that since being on CS and reading some of the pipe talk I am curious. It will probrably only be a matter of time before the curiousity kills the cat and I break down and make an investment to try it. Man, and to think that CS's influence on me with the devil site was bad enough. Like you mentioned, this place does lay down a very slippery slope.:c

pipes are cool but i will probably not ever buy one. trying to convince my wife that one smoking habit is okay is enough. but very nice kit very cool of your bro.

I haven't had any of those tobaccos, but they are all high quality. Check them out at http://www.tobaccoreviews.com to learn more about them.

And yeah, I came to CS a cigar man, but now because of the Pipe forum I'm mainly a Pod person now.

i havent smoked expensive tobacco or expenisve pipes, although some cheap tobacco in my cob tastes great to me.

Pipes rock too and you should at least buy a $5-7 corncob and give it a try. They taste just about as good as the higher priced briars ... similar enough to give you a good idea.

Just get your tobacconist to suggest a mild to medium flavor and DON'T go for the cherry flavor to win your partners over. It smells good but taste horrible. IMO

Nice kit ya got going there! Oughtta start you off on the right footing.

And I'm in the "came-to-CS-a-cigar-smoker..." crowd, too. Doing pipes more now.

Don't sweat another slope... you can do both. Where you draw the line is up to you.

Yes, I paid a visit to the pipes forum recently for the 1st time. Scrolled through the thread started by Greg (IHT) of the post a pic of your pipe....... and got out quick.
I'm like a bloody Magpie, get attracted to beautiful things and want to spend money I don't have. Their were way to many awesome looking pipes in their, got the jitters and fled like a startled gazelle.:D

yeah that thread got me scratching the ol money beard... pondering, planning :) someone posted a translucent green Peterson pipe on there that has me drooling.... but for now ill stick to my churchwarden

I'm actually one of the ones who dabbled, and didn't like the Pipe. The tobacco just tastes "weird" to me, not at all like cigars. So I'm solely a cigar man for the time being.

Firstly WOW that is one hell of a starter kit, i would honoured to recieve soemthing like that myself. love the pipe, very lord of the rings!! :r

i personally would like to get into pipe smoking but over here its as coomon place as it seems to be in the US, there is quite a social stigma about pipe smoking amongst the younger generation i am however still interested. i spend hours :dr over pictures of briar Meerschaum and clay pipes and also listening to interesting articles about restoration and tobacco. i guess i really need to meet somebody to push over the edge of the slippery slope, maybe grease it slightly too, lol.

once again tho, great kit, hope you enjoy it, i have heard that the davidoff is good.

Just bought my first pipe last week, truly a completely different experience than a cigar. Hopefully not as easy to get into as cigars, I'd hate to have a deeper hole in my pocket for these so enjoyable collections.

Lotsa luck, it's to late...somehow I acquired 10 pipes in no time at all and have more on the "I want" list...that's PAD...then there's TAD, as I'm sure I must have at least a dozen open tins of tobacco atm...

:r i thought the same thing... now when i smoke it, i have to wisley rub my beard and then proceed to talk down to everyone around me :p

thanks for the congrats and advice. For now i still dont know what the proper 'beginner' tin is (of the bunch). perhaps the Dunhill Early Morning since its very mild.
For now, i went with the CAO Liberty. i thought it appropriate to smoke the CAO (for obvious reasons and) since i didnt have any shoving in one direction. it was a divine smoke!! i was a little hesitant in packing it so it was a tad to loose and airey, but in time my friends, in time :D

glad to hear you enjoyed it, and nice on the beard stroking, i think if i started pipe smoking i would grow a beard purely for that purpose, and i already talk down to people ;)

I've seen this saying in other threads.... I've said it to myself every time I accidentally (stumble) across a pipe forum post.

"Don't fall for it.... It's a trap."
