Has anybody been to Racine & Laramie of Old Town in San Diego

I was doing some sightseeing @ Old Town in San Diego on Monday and came across this very impressive cigar shop. They had a very nice selection of sticks however it seemed as though the cigars had a 50% mark up. Sticks that I normally find at my local B&M for $3-$4 were going for $8-$9 bucks.

I've never smoked or even seen an Opus X but I've heard of them through this site. I asked the guy there to let me see it, they were selling that sucker for $50 bucks. IMHO, I thought that price was NUTZ!!!!

BTW, here is a pix of their humodor;

Never been there but there prices may seem high due to the location. Much like buying a smoke from the Caesar's shop in Vegas. I am sure their rent is sky high, in addition the location allows them to charge premium prices. :2

Nice looking place, cool vintage look to it.

Do they not actually allow to get up close to the cigars? Are you assisted the whole time and ask to see something etc? Just wondering have not seen a setup like that.

I've heard of it before...I'm stationed in San Diego but once I heard of the prices I steered away. Plus Old Town is a tourist attraction. Expect to pay possibly 25% more than regular.

I stopped by the place in June, visiting family in SD and Oceanside - it was an interesting looking place - looked like they had an Opus 22 set that they were selling singles out of.. I didn't look at any prices as my expectation in a tourist area in CA, no point is spoiling the trip :D

No they dont allow you to get up close and personal. There is someone behind the counter assisting the whole time.

I live in San Diego part time and only minutes from Old Towne and have been there a few times. You have to understand that it is in a huge tourist area where people come to visit and for them to charge that much is not uncommon. There are better B&M's only minutes from that area that have much better pricing but if you want to stay in the Old Towne area and have some great Mexican Food, you are on the right track.

The day will come that I'll vote for a Democrat before I would pay $50.00 for a single cigar....ANY CIGAR.

They are actually cheaper than Churchill's a walk up the street, that is where you will see some crazy prices, they have a cabinet with $100+ prices per cigar. Chruchill's is a little more inviting place to sit and smoke though. All in all, their prices are not terrible on regular production cigars when considering the tax in California.
