Help... beads not holding RH

I am having a similar problem in one of my humidors. What the problem appears to be is that the beads have a limited capacity to move water. Small changes in a limited amount of air space are fine, but a big rh move or a lot of cubic area pose a problem for the beads. A sponge, or some new cigars (which are usually pretty wet) move the humidity in, and the beads trim up the humidity. Rely on them for that, but if you are off by more than a little, you will need another source of humidification to get a larger amount of water into the humidor's atmosphere.

In other words, I have found the beads are better at quality than quantity. I hope this makes sense.:chk

If the area is that big then maybe a small fan would work nicely for the larger area?

I used a fan for a while, but was not impressed with the results, and I'm talking about a Tower over six feet high. In the event, when the fan conked out, I never replaced it. I put hygrometers all over the place, and could find no reason to put a fan back in. The difference between the wettest and the driest part of that tower was 3%. And no, there is not much air space for circulation, but the humidified air gets around anyway. Or, at least the humidity does.

I have been having large fluctuations in my humidor's humidity. I am using a tube of 70% beads, and despite my effort to re-charge the beads every 3-4 days, the humidity % will be 62% one day, and 72% the next. Of course, I am opening it nearly every day to take a whiff, but I'm not sure whether that's the issue. The humidor was properly seasoned, and is currently about half filled with cigars.

As a upstater myself I say leave it alone. It won't be too long and you'll ba asking how to dry out the beads because the humi is at 80%. If I were you I'd get a couple more two ounce tubes (or 8oz ) and use them all. They more beads the better a buffer you have. If I work mine right I don't need to dry them over the summer.

:tpd::tpd: A few points high or low for a day will not adversely affect your smokes. Trust in the Force!:tu
