Help the New Guy

NewToCigars

Newbie in the jungle
Hello Cigar Enthusiast,
I am new to the “Cigar World” and am interested in buying a lot of cigars because I am traveling overseas and need to buy a mass before I leave. I don’t know if Cigars are like Wine where it stems like a pyramid from “white or red” down to specifics (pinot noir, cab, merlot; pinot grigio, chardonnay, boones farm!) If it does, some info or a web-link is welcomed.
I did goto cigar.com and make a list of a plentiful amount of cigars at decent values that meet some criteria of what I do know. I am in no way promoting cigar.com, it was merely a reference point.

The criteria is as follows for now. I am sure it will change as I become evolved in this overwhelming world of tobacco. But here it is…

I do not like

·Long-time consuming cigars, I rarely have time for cigars and if I do I don’t want to feel obligated to smoke an entire one if I am satisfied after just a bit. Meaning I prefer on the go smokes but can enjoy a Robusto or Corona (anything 5x50)

·Harsh tasting cigars – I don’t want to confuse this with flavor or all the other diverse terminology. But I don’t want a cigar that will make my throat feel scratchy and dry.

·
Expensive Cigars – it isn’t that I don’t like them, its that I cannot afford them.

·
Low-quality Cigars – while this may seem like an oxymoron thus far and you don’t believe I have the senses to become an enthusiast, but, I do not want to ever compromise quality. I’d rather cough up a few extra bucks if it comes down to it.

I do like or want

·
A Good Value - Cigars that in single or bulk will cost me $.50 - $3 per cigar.

·
Cigarellos, Petities, Panatellas - whatever else are the terms for 5 to 7 minute cigars or "on the go" cigars.

·
I do not mind an actual “cigar” - Under 5 x 50 (in the 4’s x 40’s variation seem good)

·I like a lot of smoke or cigars that have a big draw (correct term?) or fill my mouth with smoke. I don’t like having to feel like im a vacuum trying to pull the smoke out of the cigar. I like a big cloud in front of me after I take a puff.

·
A Variety – It’s good to have a mix

·
To gain knowledge of cigars – I don’t want to have to do anything like this again if I can and be able to go to a store and know what I want and do not want.

From what I have described I have made a list from Cigars.com and would like people’s opinion on what to get from this list, what not to get, or what I am missing out on. You may just write a list of the numbers that are worthwhile. They are also hyper linked so you can view details on the website. I’ll also need advice on how to store these Cigars so they last me.
I appreciate your kind gesture for helping. I thank you in advance. My email is ashwinkgoel@gmail.com or please post replies…Thanks Club Stogie!:tpd:
Cigar.com list
You will see a lot of Tins as these seem to be economical and I don’t mind a short smoke…tell me if I’m way off with the tins and are they the same quality as the standard robusto or Churchill of the same brand line and cigar model. eg SAO Brazilia tin vs. a 5x50?

Re: Helpthe New Guy

I think planning someone's entire inventory is not something I am prepared to do. This is just too big of a responsibility with someone who doesn't know a little more. I don't want to be responsible for you getting a bunch of stuff you won't like. Taste is just too subjective. Most people start off small and work up to the 1k purchases. Are you travelling to a place where you can't buy cigars?

ETA: For instance I personally hate the flavored cigars but they may end up being your favorite. Flavored cigars are wildly popular.

Re: Helpthe New Guy

1) Cigar.com is one of the more expensive sites out there. :dr
2) Almost 25% of your list are flavored cigars. Have you ever tried one?:pu
3) Go slow. Try a few fivers, singles or sample packs from your local B&M or cigarbid.com:hn
4) Depending on where you are traveling, there are many good cigars in smaller sizes available overseas. :chk
5) Stop by the New Gorilla forum and introduce yourself.:tu

Short ones to try? Tatuaje Petites, Camacho Machitos, Partagas Black label Prontos, Cabiguan Petites, Davidoff cigarillos. :2

Re: Helpthe New Guy

I am not looking to purchase all of these...Rather just a list of what I came up with off a site. I am only looking to spend about $250 dollars...and yes, I am traveling to a place where there are no cigars and if there are they are fake...you can't buy marlboro lights that are real!

Are you currently somewhere where you can't get to a local cigar store and try some out?

Re: Helpthe New Guy

What do you lose with a Cigarello or "Tins" thes seem appealing to me for a short smoke and the value...meaning if I just want a quick puff without spending $5 on a cigar I can get the same utility for $1 or $2...are tins ok or is it sacrilegious?

Re: Helpthe New Guy

My suggestions from the list:

17.Partagas Puritos 4.13 X 32, Puritos, Cameroon
Tin of 10
In Stock$12.95 1 $12.95

If it were me I would buy the seconds. They are called Old Fashioned and you can get a box of the 100 Chicos for 22 bucks at http://www.mikescigars.com

22.CAO Brazilia Cariocas 4 X 38, Cariocas, Maduro
Tin of 5
In Stock$9.95 1 $9.95

Great smokes but imho they need a year of age. You probably can get them cheaper at many different sites. Check out http://www.cigarsinternational.com and http://www.lilbrown.com

23.Partagas Black Label Prontos (Tins) 4.18 X 36, Prontos (Tins), Maduro
Tin of 6
In Stock$12.50 1 $12.50

Great smokes--buy them much cheaper at lilbrown.

24.La Aroma de Cuba Interlude 4 X 34, Interlude, Habano
Tin of 8
On Order$12.95 1 $12.95

A bit mild for my tastes but you may like them. They are certainly high quality.

39.CAO Italia Piccolo 4 X 38, Piccolo, Habano
Tin of 5
In Stock$9.95 1 $9.95

These are one of my favs but you can easily beat that price by bidding at http://www.cigarbid.com or check the prices at cigarsinternational.

Enjoy, and welcome!

There is no right or wrong. It is whatever works for you and you like the taste. Swisher sweets are a big seller and if the people that smoke them like them then more power to them.

Re: Helpthe New Guy

you definately did your homework.. but from one noob to another , you might want to try buying a few singles at a time. As was said , everyones tastes are different (creamy to me might be spicy to someone else) after reading review after review I just made myself a list like you did and buy a few at a time or a few samplers (online) I'm still lookin for the one for me too... Probably not much help , just that reading different cigar profiles and reviews had me spinning in circles instead of enjoying the cigars I had. Sorry for the rant just a noobs :2

Re: Helpthe New Guy

Just go with the tins for cost control, time, packing, etc. Premium cigars are something to enjoy while taking your time and not rushing thru else just get a pack of Backwoods and light em up. I'm not much into short-cutting the cigar experience or limiting myself to $2-$3 smokes and everyone has their own niche. If its just the taste you crave then the tins are a good bet for you.

Re: Helpthe New Guy

All I have to say is NO NO NO NO NO ACID CIGARS...One day you will thank me when you actually have the misfortune of trying one. It is like smoking a pixy stick that has dipped in fun dip sugar after being dipped in the toilet after it was used by someone who came from a cheap buffet.

Re: Helpthe New Guy

that is a hell of a first post I must say :D

LOL My thoughts exactly! OCD anyone? :r

I'm kidding... like everyone says, you really need to try a few singles before dropping $250 on cigars you might not even like. :2

Good luck!

Re: Helpthe New Guy

I think that what you have for a selection up there is a little bit of overkill. You should take the time to smoke some singles to discover the flavor profile you like, from there it would be much easier to suggest smokes to try :2

correct. Im in India right now...

When are you going to be back at your permanent date of residence? Or do you reside in India?

Re: Helpthe New Guy

I forgot to mention, most of the tinned cigarello type cigars are short filler.

Good luck. :)

Wow thats a lot of writing. I say 4 hours a day for about 3 weeks with the search function would be a great start. :r good luck:ss

Re: Helpthe New Guy

If you do nothing else, get yourself a box of sancho panza double maduros. For ~$40, they are a great deal and fantastic smoke. They are my go to daily cigar.
