How long does it take you to choose a cigar?

On average how long does it take you to choose a cigar out of your collection?

I'm always looking through the vinotemp, cooler, and desktops trying to make a decision! Then I have to think about what I've had and what I haven't had? CC or NC? Natural or Maduro or other?

Am I the only one with this condition?

Usually not too long. I take out about 10 days worth and put them in my dry-box (50-58 % humidity) so then I have a limited # to choose from. :tu

I have my Vino's stock posted on-line with each cigars' age or length of time I've had it stored.

I often review that first so I can dig for some of the older sticks and let the newer additions rest awhile.

I usually already know what I want once I get to that point but sometimes I see something else and take that instead.

Good question....I have a dry box going with about 6ish sticks at any time. I try to anticipate what I would like to smoke during the week and, when the the mood hits, I open it up and select the one that I want.

I usually think about what I want before I get to the humi. But, I only have about 70 sticks so my choice is a lot easier to make. If I had 3000 sticks, it might take me a little longer. Actually, I got to the humi yesterday and was undecided between two. It took me about 3 minutes. :ss

Engineer answer - 30.652+/-0.295 seconds - I will post the run chart, control charts, and histogram later on. :ss

Lawyer answer - Please define the terms "long", "take", "choose", "cigar", and "collection" - that will be $500. Also as far as your condition; I believe there is a lot of money available for those who suffer from Cigarachoosaphobia (aka CCP). Please contact us so we can discuss your condition.

I'm all over the map, sometimes 5 seconds, and sometimes 10 minutes. :)

:tpd:

yesterday for example, I picked a Montecristo #2 in a couple of seconds because I really wanted to smoke that fine cigar and I knew I was gonna smoke it 36 hours before I actually did. The 2nd cigar was a harder choice, opened some boxes, felt the cigars, smelled the cigars and then I decided.

I don't spend time at all. I look for something that tickles my fancy and grab it. The odd time I'll think about what I want during the day (daydreaming I think they call it).

I'll add that while I don't spend time choosing cigars, I DO spend a lot of time reviewing them and taking notes/pics.

Sometimes I already have a cigar in mind and nothing else will do. Many other times I sit there talking to myself, "this, no not that... had that a couple days ago..bleh bleh bleh". If people were watching they'd think I had issues :D:D:D.

I can't say I "know" what I want (ie: I want a chocalate/nutty stick) because I rate cigars as good, ok, bad. If I want a good cigar, it's easy. I grab one I know I will like, the specific stick is not of a concern usually. If I'm trying something new that came in a trade/bomb, then it takes longer. But I would guess about 3 - 4 minutes.

Okay for me literally hours...it starts in the morning when I think I wouldn't mind a smoke with my coffee. Then I browse the vino looking for one that will fit. Find one that will be a good lunch smoke. Finally after about 10-15 minutes of sorting through I find another smoke that will be good for after dinner. About this time the dog needs out, or the little one is crying. So the Morning smoke was never chosen or smoked. Lunch time hits and I totaly forget I had a smoke lined up. Then its after dinner and all day I have been debating wich one to smoke. I pull out one cut and prep, then change my mind just before the lite. OH the decisions. So there it is my name is Jason and I suffer from Cigarachoosaphobia.

:tpd:Definitely my case as well. The Hog is wise. Sometimes you know you are in the mood for a certain smoke or experience("I want a buzz, where is that Litto!") other times I will have a stick selected and about to cut and then back in the Vino or Humi it goes and I go back and select something else. Did that last night, had an Upmann #2 recently gifted to me by Hal(hk3) and I put it down for more rest and pulled out an old PP. :dr

I'm usually pretty quick (1-2 min), but I don't have a big selection yet. I have a bunch incoming from trade and purchase though, so it will likely take a bit longer then. Especially since most of the sticks are likely to be new to me and I'll have to do a bit of research to find out about them.

I'm a geek so I have an inventory on a spreadsheet. It helps me know what I have without keeping the humi lid open too long.

Good question. Besides the things you mention, I sometimes have trouble deciding whether to smoke something fresh or older. Not sure how much of a kick I want. Older ones are harder to find and part of me wants to hang on to them too.

D, half the fun for me is the "fondle." I don't have enough of one type of cigar to keep them in their own boxes. As a result, I have a mish mash of sticks in boxes that may or may not have anything to do with the marca. For example, I have a bunch of different Fuentes in an Ashton box and a variety of different Pepin blends in an Opus X box. I love going through the boxes and just looking for something. I found a long forgotten Illusione 88 in an old Partagas box. You'd thought it was Christmas the way I reacted.
