I have them in all of my humidors and they have been great since I started using the beads 8 months ago. They offer the added benefit of adding or subtracting humidity as needed and last much longer than gel. I had used the gel style before finding out about beads.

I've used the gel with good results, but I do think you'll be happier with a pound of beads. That is probably more than you will need but I wouldn't get any less. They work flawlessly and are more flexible than the gel because you can put them in almost any container. A pound will give you enough beads for a desktop, a medium sized cooler and still have some left over for a traveldor.
