Humi jar statement

So......

I'm at the checkout at Corona Cigar Co and they have all the accessories lining the counter and i am looking through all the stuff and grab one of those hunidity jars that holds what i would guess is around 1 ounce of gel beads.

It was about the perfect size to toss into the tupperador I am using until I get some more room in one of my humidors. I scan the jar a couple times to see if it is 65 or 70 rh that it maintains. I can't see anything at all, so as it would be, the GM of the store walks through and I ask him.

He goes into a whole lecture about how it has never been shown that 65 or 70 beads work any differently and it's all hype. he says the fluctuations with one maybe going higher and another lower than the stated rh make it pointless to even ask.

While this may be true or false, I am wondering because I have recently been amazed at the lack of information i am able to get from any of the staff there who all seem to be very young and smoking cigars that they exhale through their nostrils.

the workers there are stuck up and dont know jack about cigars. they know the surface level stuff but then they run way too much bs.

i ignore most of what they say and take the rest at little value.

Hey! I exhale through my nose. Though, I can't say I'm very young. Well, maybe to all the FOGs out there.

I get your point. I does seem like there are a bunch of jacka@@es that work at B&Ms. I did find one that I liked very much in Columbus, OH last weekend. They seemed knowledgable and were very friendly. I may have to hit them up again.

Best of luck finding your happy place.

As far as I've been able to find, the jars work the same way as traditional humidifiers with a water/PG solution, except that instead of the solution being suspended in foam, they use a super-absorbent polymer, similar to what is used in disposable baby diapers.

As far as the question on how the beads work, I've still got questions about that; all of the information I've found would say that the different humidity levels are the same product, except that they're conditioned differently. They act as a humidity buffer more than anything.

And I too exhale a little bit through my nostrils on every puff, does that mean I don't know what I'm talking about? Wouldn't be the first time! ;)

Sorry to hear about your bad experiance, the few times that I have been by one of the stores have been good. The owner Jeff is a super nice guy.

The humi jars usually use a gel (as mentioned above) much like what comes in "Drimistat" tubes, and many other products. These normally contain a propyleneglycol (PG) substance to regulate humidity and reduce mold contamination. This PG composition make most of the gels naturally hygroscopic to about 70% (give or take a bit depending on the ratio of PG to H2O).
(The beads are better.)
Trust the beads.....
Use the force.....
Do not give in to the dark side....

Hey bro,

Unfortunately IME traveling their's allot of jagoffs working @ B&M"s but you can't assume the owner is a terd just cause he hired one.Nothing is quite like some of the asswipes I've seen @ stores in europe. When they know your not a native and your looking @ habanos marked up 100% the BS just starts flying outta their mouth.

I actually went to my B&M the other day asking for some Boveda packs and they didn't have any so the guy gave me two free Fuente humidity packs. Good people...

You can read my sorta review in the Cigar Accesories sub-forum on the Humicare gel I recieved from CI. I tested it again in a different humidor enviroment with my German made analog hygrometer(that's more accurate IME then any digital one I've used) and it's staying dead nuts @ 75%. No thankyou.

Peace:ss

Well,

The owner at the mall store is the best, and he lets me know when certain cigars are in that I like and I even bring him a few that i have that he doesn't carry. He gave me an empty OpusX box for free, etc.

Problem is, there are certain sticks he doesn't carry, like Pepins. In the case of me wanting a single stick or three, and I am passing Corona, I have little choice but to pull in.

My main purpose wasn't to expose the owners of Corona as bad people, I was trying to validate the statement about no differentiating between 65 and 70. Somehow, it didn't come off that way I guess.

Now the owners of Sosa Family cigars in Downtown Disney are another story; they're plain thieves!!!

Well, maybe so until you factor in the cost of leasing the building at one of the most popular places to visit in the world. From what I hear they are no more expensive than Casa Fuente's and they're located in a much better (more expensive) location.

That said I happen to dislike Corona's, I find their staff to be rude.

While exhaling I open my nostrils for a moment or two .. I've been told by several people, including someone who's been smoking cigars for more than 50 years, that exhaling through the nostril and mouth at the same time helps a person taste the cigar better. Since I've been doing that, I definitely agree.

So, in my (well, mine and the people who have told me this) opinion, exhaling through the nostril isn't always bad :tu
