Humidor Temp

I had a quick question about cooling humidors... I keep the room around 74 degrees, and I am getting a small cabinet humi. What are some good ways that you can keep a humidor cooler without colling the whole room?

Do you have a place where you can relocate your humi., that might be cooler, such as a basement?

yeah, i am thinking that i might just have to move it... thx

Not much outside of keeping it in the coldest room that you can find. One option is to jump into the wonderful annoying world of Peltiers and see if they will work for you. And they are of course expensive for the most part to setup correctly. I am currently in the learning game on them with my cabinet humidor I'm building.

Good luck with it -

another quick question thats on topic, would u rather want to much humidity or to high of a temp. My upstairs is hotter, but my down stairs is at about 80% humidity-( sorry if i seem to hijak this)

There are different products that can be added to your humidor, such as beads, to help control the humidity; controlling temperature is more difficult.

Is 74 really so bad? I wouldn't have thought so, but I will defer to others with more bananas.

I probably wouldn't lose sleep over it if it was for a few hours/day or so. Other than that, I wouldn't want to risk it. The debate on whether beetles hatch at temps above 60 deg or 70 still rages, but I feel that 70 or lower is safest. In your case with not wanting to cool the whole room, there have been other here who have rigged thermoelectric units to their coolers/cabs/etc. There have even been a couple of threads on the subject of small cooling units for cabinets. I am just not in the mood to search for them now. Best of luck.

Funny thing I have always thought about. When they age the tobacco and in-between fogging the leafs with "insect-be-gone"... isn't it above 70 degrees in the DR, Honduras, Ecuador, etc? Just seems silly that the temp higher up from the equator would need to be lower than the native region.

Just wondering. :w

When it comes to humidor Temperature, how cool is to cool? My humi temp occasionally dips between 55 - 60 degress Farenheit. Should I worry about this or are those temps ok?

Low temps are not a worry....the high ones bring the potential beetle concerns.
