If I could give a bit more advice, it would be to memorize you're speech according to your outline. But don't plan on just reciting it from memory. Just focus on your outline during your speech. It prevents you from reading and forces you speak about cigars rather then reciting a speech about them.

Pick out about 5 people in the room who look interested. (One should be your teacher) And deliver the speech to them.

Also sounds like visual aids would be a plus... Cutters, Maduro vs Natural, Humidor, etc...

Hey why not do drinks that pair with cigars???

Port, Brandy, Beers, Whiskey, Rum, etc...???

Everyone in class will love you for that!!!
:r

Lotsa great ideas here! Remember- KISS! And, indeed, I especially like the idea of bringing samples of el-cheapo vs quality cigars and emphasizing how they are not comparable to cigarettes!

Wonderful idea.
Speech was my favourite college courses (yes I took two, and even gave my commencement address at age 45).
My late step-father encouraged me to get into speech in high school a long time ago.
Whatever you do, keep the audience entertained, because once you lose them you will play hell getting them back.
Start out with some amusing story (there should be plenty of fodder for that here), and if you can, conclude with a final reference to that opening story. I always called it "coming full circle", and it makes it memorable and impresses the prof.
I will anxiously await your stories about this project and would even be interested in reading a copy should you choose to make one available.
Good luck to you, and go make a positive impact about cigars!!

10 min. is nothing. By the time you pass out smokes and these people get them lit, 3 minutes are gone.

I would just stick to the bias against cigar smoking and the bans that are going into effect all over the country. Also, talk about the unfair taxes they are trying to impose. Maybe squeeze in how much time an effort it takes to make a cigar from growing the leaf to the final product.

Hmmm..that sounds like at least 15 minutes. :ss

So have you done your speach yet? If not, when is it? Let us know how it goes!

I haven't yet, I'm actually working on it right now and it is due tomorrow. I will let everyone know how it went. Thanks again to everyone, I was able to get the ball rolling with some of your ideas.:D
