I think its time for a new butane lighter now

I've been having problems with my butane lighter now for quite a long time now. I think it might be something to do with me having fiddled with the flame size valve on the lighter.

But recently, when I try to light the lighter, it just spurts out gas for quite a while, but i've noticed if I look closely, I can see a fine line of the gas actually being sprayed out of the lighter. This seems to happen after re-fills I've notced and takes a bit of time to sort itself out.

But anyway, I made this decision based on what happend the other night while lighting a cigar. The flame shot out the end of the lighter like a large flame thrower, and caused the end of my cigar to actually catch fire. There was a large flame sitting on the end of my cigar for about second or so before i quickly blew it out. It was quite comical at the time I must admit, and I decided to use another lighter to light the cigar instead. I wish I had a camera to photograph the look on my face when the flame shot out and caught onto my stogie :)

Butane lighters I've noticed can be very temperemental and can break/become faulty quite easily unfortunetley. I think its time for a new one. :)

A blazer pb207 should do the trick, just read up on this lighter on this forum...its good advice....

At a shop in my area they sell a five pack of cigars with a free lighter I have been using those for quite sometime now I had one get junked but it was free with a five pack can't complain about that

PB-207 is a great lighter. You shouldn't pay more than $30 for the Japanese version or $15 for the Chinese take off. I bought one thats similar in Taiwan for around 3 bucks. You can find the Chinese take off for 15 bucks on ebay, etc. I would say it is 95% as good for half the price ... I bought three of them and have had no problems with any.

In my experience, Colibri lighters suck. Dupont X-tend are nice but expensive. Xikar's executive lighter sucks. Most of these "fancy" jet lighters have tiny butane canisters and no way of seeing how much is inside. If you want a lighter for cigars, the PB-207 or its copies are the only way to go.

Do you purge the lighter before refueling? If I don't purge, Colibri type lighters often shoot jets of fuel until the pressure drops a bit .. what you have observed.

I just got the pb207 in tiger color, should have bought the clear as I cant tell the fluids level...o well next time....

The only one I can recommend based on experience is the Dupont X-tend, because it's the only one I use... it NEVER fails. There a little pricey, but its a one time purchase if your someone that dosent lose lighters.

I'd be willing to try a PB 207 based on all the positive recommendations I've seen here.

I like Colibri lighters, they work well and look sweet. I also have some Nibo, Vector and Xikar and all of them work great. I know everyone loves those Ronsons, and I am sure they work great, I just prefer something a little nicer. It boils down to using good fuel. :tu

Am I to blame for you messing with the flame size? :)

If you are getting sputtering you either have it turned up way too far or you have carbon buildup in the jet nozzle. I would try hitting the jet with compressed air, frequently this can dislodge the carbon buildup chunks with no further effort required.

On many lighters with the star shaped jet, the jet and housing are friction fitted and can be removed with needle nose pliers. Before tossing out the lighter you might want to see if you can remove the jet and housing and scrub out the buildup with a fine brush.

There are a lot of good suggestions for replacements in this thread if all else fails..

I picked up a Blazer PB-207 not too long into this hobby and haven't been disappointed. And they come in all sorts of pretty colors!

I use a bunch of cheapo triple torches that I got from Rob at Taboo. I have an ebay triple torch light up led blinky thing that I like, too.

I got in on one of the PB-207 group buys a long ways back. I picked up three and am still using my first one. Runs like a champ after more than a year and the clear fuel tank (I got 1 clear, 1 red, and 1 black) is excellent in gauging when you will need a refill.

I always get the cheapest butane lighters I can get. The last one I found on the checkout line of a supermarket for 4 bucks. I prefer matches and only use the torch when I don't have any other choice.

Ronson jetlite is definitely the way to go. If you are looking for them at Walmart bigger stores give you better odds of finding them. And the 2.93 price tag can't be beat.

I've had many lighters over the years, from expensive to inexpensive. The Blazer PB-207 has been the best and most reliable (although, not the prettiest). I also have the Blazer Chief II, which has never given me any problems either and is good for nights on the town (all chrome with cutter and MUCH PodFactor).
Make sure you invest in butane that's been refined more then 3x's. This will have a huge affect on how your torch lighters perform. I use Lava (refined 5x's and only $7.99 per can). Hope this helps.

My first "good" lighter was a Xicar Exec, I scrapped it for the Blazer 207. The Xicar was bitchy about fuel, wouldn't light on the first click, and has a tiny fuel tank. The Blazer always works on the first click, and holds a ton of fuel.
