I wasted a perfectly "good" Tat

So yesterday I picked up a couple of Tat P1s. I'd never tried one and thought it might be a good way to save a few bucks if I liked them. Today I got about an inch into the thing and had to let it die. It was grassy, the wrapper had a few green spots on it, just an overall bad experience. To be fair I'll give the other one a shot in a few days but I wasn't at all impressed with these. I know, I know, it's the value line. Still it tasted like a Don Diego. Not at all what I expected from a Pepin stick. No pepper at all. :2

I'm not following. Your title says you wasted a perfectly good Tat, but your story leads me to believe you wasted a crappy Tat that was off or just bad...

There is no foul in setting a crappy stick down, even if it's normally a good stick.

I went back and added quotes around good.

No I agree there is no shame in putting down a bad stick. If the thing had draw problems or burned uneven I'd chalk it up to a bad stick. My issue was the taste. I didn't expect a Pepin stick, even a value Pepin, to taste like a Don Diego or Belinda.

Re: I wasted a perfectly good Tat

Maybe give it some time, I have enjoyed the P series I have had but that is no guarantee yours will work out. I've also enjoyed the Fumadores from Holt's as a cheap Pepin.

The P1 was my least favorite in that line. I like the P3 and P4, but the P1 just doesn't have the same richness or taste and I don't know why.

PM me your address. I'll send you some good Tats. I don't like the entire Tat line, but the petites and noellas are faves.

I'm with you on the tat P's. The flavor just isn't there. What I have come to enjoy is the Benchmade it has a lot of the pepin flavor without a big price tag.

I have enjoyed most of the Tats I have smoked, but I have to agree the P1 was not good IMO.

Don't expect from the P's regardless of size what you might get from a red or brown. it is a much milder line. I love them early in the day

Giving the cigar time to rest will often improve it; however, when you expect a "Pepin-esque" flavor - time isn't suddenly going to help it develop.

I had a similar problem with an SP2 -- it seemed a bit wet and tasted very grassy. My hunch is that these are rolled from pretty young tobacco.

Hey thanks for the offer but I am a regular Tat smoker. That's pretty much all I smoke and I keep them well stocked.

I really enjoy the red, brown, and black labels so I was hoping the whites would be decent. I wasn't expecting the same quality as with the others since the price is MUCH lower. But I did expect that Pepin punch which is lacking IMO.

I completely agree...life is too short to smoke a crappy cigar no matter how popular it is or expensive it was. I was about to say I've even chucked a 1926 but I can't remember ever having a crappy one.

You didnt waste that smoke. Not you have a yard stick. Besides all of the cigars we smoke are hand made and sometimes bad ones get into the lineup. But I would look at it as an investment in yard sticks. If you fish there it that option as well. Or just give them to friends who come over and want something to smoke. I have Quorums for my buddies.
