"I'm sorry sir, we don't allow cigars"

I should have known this was going to be a bad night right there. I'd been to this bar a few times before but I never took any sticks with me. As we left the apartment I fired up an AF I've never had before. had the SS/Best Seller nipple on it but it was a full size stick...now sure what it is. I was really enjoying it we walked in the bar and as he's checking my ID the bouncer tells me "we don't allow cigars". But they allow cigs Normally I would have just said "that's fine give me my ID back and I'll be on my way" but my fiancee loves this bar so I stayed.

First Pitcher was skunked, second was skunked, salt for the tequila shot almost made me barf, the rum and coke was coke with a bit of rum, the only thing that wasn't bad was the balieys I had. Three people told the bar tender about the beer but they didn't care. I made a point to stay sober, not that I could have gotten drunk with the crap they were serving me, and CHARGING me for!, anyway but on my way out I stopped and told the bouncer "you know I really like your bar but due to your smoking policy I won't be back"

His response, "well that's the way it's always been" Not sorry, not would you like to talk to a manager, no he said "well that's the way it's always been" Well FECK that. There are 8 billion bars downtown I don't need that one. I may call down today and ask to speak to the manager about the beer and smoking policy

Sorry for the long post I just needed to vent

Thats pretty rough bro. As if no smoking isnt bad enough ya get shit brew. I think I would have had to pick a fight with the door man. Im glad there are a few decent pubs around here that allow cigar smoking.

I feel your pain brother - seems like more and more places are A.) allowing cigarette smoking B.) not allowing cigars.

Does it make sense: HELL NO>

:tpd:
It doesn't make one bit of sense and I've always questioned it even before I was a cigar smoker

Wow! That sucks.

I had the opposite experience at a bar in KC,MO last month. I asked if I could light up and they said no problem. :tu

I know of at least two bars who have no problem when I spark one....I'll just stick to them from now on. I think I'm more pissed off over the way they treated the skunked beer then anything else

I believe I would have told the management in a nice way that I spend $xxx.xx most evenings when I go out with my lady but I believe I will spend my money elsewhere since their establishment has a no cigar smoking policy and their beer tastes like the bartender's body odor. Well, maybe I wouldn't have said the last thing but I would tell them that the beer is nasty!

My money is good anywhere and in the future I will spend it elsewhere!

Reminds me of a business trip I took several years back before the big anti-smoking crowd began their quest to rid "bars" of all their smoke.

Went to an expensive establishment in Buckhead to meet a friend I hadn't seen in a long time and could not be seated in the "ONE" table that allowed smoking. I kid you not, 1-table only. Well after waiting at the bar for approximately two hours we were seated at the one table and the waiter said I could not smoke my cigar at the table because the bar did not have the appropriate ventelation equipment to remove the cigar smoke and it would bother the other patrons. We finally went back to the bar where they accommodated us with our order and some adult beverages. The tab was not cheap either.

When will companies realize that their bars are not childrens' amusement parks. Their establishment should allow the clientel to smoke and drink in an adult establishment. Treat us all like adults not children!

I have been back to the city since the occurence but not to the resturant. I took my business elsewhere!

That's where I would have had a problem I went into the place knowing full well I couldn't smoke a cigar, but to get skunked beer and lousy drinks... I am too old to put up with that and would have complained loudly to the management.

Good move picking a fight with a bouncer after a couple pitchers. Never do THAT sober. Wasn't smoking cigars considered high class just a few years ago? WTF? I guess it's the world we live in now.

I didn't pick a fight with anyone actually. I just walked up to him calmly and said "I like this place but" we shook hands and parted company. I didn't want to start trouble nor did I intend to. I just told him what I thought of the smoking policy and moved on to get fries and head home

This is the type of treatment being handed out more and more. There is no customer service, especially with those establishments that make their profit from it. My wife is an ex-waitress, look out when she throws the "Bitch Switch" :D

It's getting much harder to find a place to smoke, I live in a large city and there's only a handfull of places maybe...

I dont quite understand the bars that allow cigarettes but no cigars....

I'm smoking more and more at home these days, I'm finding my own easy chair, remote, and ESPN make for a nice smoking lounge.

Sorry to hear about the lackadazickle attitude,is that word?, of the doorman, sometimes just an "Im sorry about the policy but i hope you'll come back" would help. seems simple enough and much nicer.

you guys need to move here to greenwood sc. there is not a privately owned bar in town that does not care if you smoke a cigar. most of the places are nice with good drinks. its just the applebees kind of joints you have to watch, but who goes there any way. i do understand your pain though. the last place i lived had passed a smoking ban over the whole city.

I feel for ya, pretty much the reason I dont go out anymore..DITTO this,,,
It's gotten so bad that in certain cities you aren't even given the lattitude (or longitude) of walking down the street smoking your favorite one without having a "uni" warning you about putting that filthy thing out! ex. Cape Cod

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. But honestly, I don't have a problem with a bar deciding what they do or don't allow in their establishment (even if it doesn't make much sense). I have a problem with governments making the decision for them.

At least take some hope in the fact you may find another place to smoke in peace and enjoyment whilst dining, drinking and smoking.
Minnesota started with a ban of smoking inside bars in 2 counties, after having a ban for restaurants, then the took it statewide. Now we have a ban against smoking in ANY place of employment. That means ANYWHERE. I believe the only exceptions are Tobacconists, and the confiscatory state taxes are putting those out of business, with the exception of the headshop/convenience store type where most of the tobacco they sell is cigarettes.

"Welcome to Hell, hope your vacation here from a more Libertarian state is enjoyable, if not Screw You" should be The Great State of Minnesota's Motto.

The thing I can't understand is the casinos that allow cigarettes and not cigars. That is so not right!
