Inventory Tracking, hardware/software

Thay would be pretty cool! I think the main issue would be having to "create / enter" all your product so the startup would take some time.... If most of your inventory is boxes, it would go a bit quicker. :ss

SAD when something like this gets my blood going so early in the morning!! WHY do so many of us absolutely crave as well as enjoy organization??

First there were SHARPIE markers, then the Dymo labelmaker, then a stellar leap to the Brother P Touch label maker. I like to alphabetize, colorize, and label-ize EVERYTHING. Is there a pill or a shot for this??

The bar code idea is a great way to organize a lot of stock.

I could do that with a regular printer, some free software, and a CueCat scanner that I salvaged from a junk box at the local computer part store

Just saying, there's no need to spend money on that kind of thing when you can set up quite easily to handle it with random parts and crap. :)

It would be cool to take it a step further and use RFID tags to address the inevitable search & rescue mission when you want to find a specific stick.

Is anyone else as sick as I am and thinks this is just awesome?

Print barcodes to put on your boxes and use a scanner to log it all... yeah. :dr

Before spending some money , try these softwares first - it's free!. Of course, the start up is always hardest, if not, time consuming - but once you have the whole thing going it's easy.

I hope this provided you with some options.

Is there a free/low cost solution that would print bar code on avery labels?
Barcoding might be overkill unless you have a whole bunch of undressed cigars from cabs.

Try this site:
http://www.barcode-soft.com/online-barcode-generator.aspx

Just get the template from Avery site then past this image on each of the labels.

I suggest use the Code 128A or Codabar with small height, and 1 for width in .jpg format.

AND IT'S FREE!!!

I already use cigar tracking software, as mentioned in several other threads. This was more so about the IDEA of using a bar code scanner/software, not a specific product, I should have mentioned that in my original post. I'd never go out and drop a grand on software that's available for under a hundred.

I made the mistake about talking about this with my wife over coffee this morning. I track my inventory so I know what I have, what I have paid, etc. She thinks that is insane enough and calls me scrooge. She doesn't understand the difference between constantly counting your loot and playing with them.

In any event, I just got the ultimatum evidence of barcodes and RFID tags on my sticks could become Exhibit A in my divorce proceedings. It's too bad... because that would be such a cool thing to do!
