Hey guys.

I just signed up as an Iphone Developer.
Still learning a bit but for my first application i was thinking
Of a database app.

Thoughts are an app that you can input information about the cigar you just smoked.

Like Brand, Type, Filler, Year, etc.. notes somthing along the lines for herfing and just keeping a database of cigars you smoked the details and your thoughts of it.

Eventually would like to beable to email that database or even sync online somewhere.

Just was thinking of starting simple and then letting it evolve from there.

what you guys think?

That would be cool. Even better would be the ability to sync it with Bento (low-end mac database tool). That's where I keep my inventory and notes, etc., but would be great if I could use the iPhone for updates. Seems like the data structures wouldn't be too tough to integrate, since they both (I would expect) use Leopard's CoreData framework and APIs.

Good luck with the project.

As an iPhone owner I think that wousld be a very useful app. I mean I'm always on the ibone, in fact I'm posting on it now. When I go to the b&m I never take a ledger with me, but I will sit on the couch stick clenched in my teeth posting away here on CS. Poking for thee reviews of he stick I'm currently smoking. I personal think it would be a great assest to my ibone, but what it comes down to is cost and whether there is enough people who would be using the app.

Yha that was what i was thinking

You always have your phone with you
being able to pop in some information about what your smoking would be awsome Bento is cool i've used it and have wrote stuff for filemaker here at work.

I would want to keep it more simple like an xml or something

but like i said have not even started it yet
would like to keep it simple at first

Just data entry a bunch of premade menu's
Like type's "Corrona" "Petie"
Length, ring
filler's
wrappers

thing of that nature that all you have to do is scroll the wheel to find it.

simplicity would be only having to type for notes

any how this has been my though for the past few days.

Let us know if you move forward with it. I'd volunteer to be a beta tester! :tu

Sounds interesting. I'd like to be able to take photos and tag them to the review or database entry.

Keep us posted. I'm sure there are plenty of us here that have iphones that would beta test with you.

Yha cool .

I'm one of thouse people that feels they have to keep learning.
And at work it seems all dried up nothing new to learn.

So i decided to do this.

Once i actually brake ground with the app.
I will start a thread here with updates and what not as i go.
sure i will need alot of input.

i've been on the boards here and smoking for years but by far no expert I know i will miss things.

just wanted to see if anyone else would be intrested in this.
If not i would of done it for my self any way :p

I would definitely be interested provided the database stays on the phone and doesn't require WiFi or 3G to access.

Yha i would want the database local

but i would also like to be able to email it this way you can import it into something else if you like.

Going to start basic and progress from there.
biggest thing i see is just inputting all the diffrent options.
Once i get a basic layout down i will start posting to get people inputs cigar lists and what not to include.

Also not this is a side thing so maybe awhile before it gets out.
But will want to get it out sooner then later.
work, 2 kids, wife and dog leave little time.
but work has been slow so able to read and learn a bit here.

How about an option to upload to Top25? I'd be down with that too. :)

Regardless of that feature or not; you have the right thoughts and I appreciate your work!

there are all great idea's

I am not fluent in this language yet will take some time. It shouldn't be that much diffrent then C++ just learning new syntax and pointer librarys
I am totally open to idea's

But this will be an evolving app i will guarantee that.

;)

hmm if I could get that on my itouch that would be lovely...I use my itouch when I'm at the b&m so I can log onto CS =) ...I'm just waiting for Flash to become available so I can chat as well =)

Yha it would be all over if flash goes to the iphone..

And by the way just about any application for the iphone will work in the itouch
so safe to say it would work.

But i will keep it in mind when writing and reading.

How about the ability to look up a brand/size and it links to reviews on the web. So if you're at a cigar shop you can get instant reviews of the smoke before you buy.

I love that idea! I don't smoke a lot of new sticks because I like to review them on my sheets as I go, that way I won't loose any notes, but this would be awesome for me! All I'd need would be a "cigar brand" and notes section (which technically could do that now as is), but this would be a lot sweeter!! But before I forget, my input, i'd like to have categories to label things under, as in cigar, flavor, body/texture, overall (which encompasses for me construction/appearance, burning even/uneven, etc).
