Is this crazy plume, or mold?

I was looking at the horribly over priced cigar shops around Pasadena (100%+ over MSRP is the standard) and came across some interesting stuff - only one picture though.

First, the picture, is the plume or mold... or perhaps something else? This shop had a lot of super high end stuff and not just a few either (multiple boxes of Opus X and God of Fire). The issue is that some of the other things were a little questionable...

There was a smaller cigar that looked similar, with stuff on the inside of the cellophane, but it looked like it was somehow water damage, not plume or mold... there was a RP Olde World Reserve that was... I want to say soggy; I picked it up and it squished in my fingers (I was being gentle too) without any noise, and then held the squished shape when I quickly replaced it. It didn't feel wet - just had the texture of being squishy and soggy.

There were also a number of destroyed cigars on shelves in their walk in humidor - I'm talking split nearly from cap to foot.

Anyway, I really just wanted to know about the cigars pictured, and I guess the soggy feeling RP.

Seems those Fitts are prone to mold. I bet if you open one of those tubos you would find it in there too. I have seen many of those with mold and other cigars next to them would be fine.

I'm not too surprised - cigar shops around here seem to be booming, if you will - there are 2-3 huge lounges within half a mile of each other. While that's awesome, it means prices are ridiculous and the shop owners are - from what I've seen, profiteering douche bags... I was in their walk in humidor for like 10 minutes and the owner came in and started asking what was taking so long, etc, etc. :(

So far I found one nice place, not cheap, but much cheaper than the other places (50% over MSRP and a couple things at MSRP), a good selection... not too many small things, but a sprinkling of everything from CAO Flavours all the way over to Joya de Nicaragua (skipping the super high end stuff). It's just a little smoke shop run by some old Asian woman, they have pipe tobacco, hookahs, etc, etc...

The Joya de Nicaraguas were only $6 for the consul size, where as the other places would have wanted more, had they had JdN. (They wanted $12+ for Nubs.)

Few more places to check out around here, and I have high hopes, which will likely soon be dashed to pieces. :(

i also saw a guy literally throwing cigars back into their boxes... like, from 3-4 feet away. Of course the owner didn't bother him, just me cause I was taking longer than a couple minutes! :(

Svghax, with all those problems you wrote about in the store it sounds more like a cigar morgue! If I were you I'd stay far away from that place from now on. It's just not worth wasting your cash.

Agreed! Haha, it's too bad a place can't have bother nice ambiance and decent prices... *sigh*
