I've been outbid!

Alot of future BABOTL's can rest easy tonight knowing that 'Mean' Darrell's stash of Cremosas is diminishing.. :r

I think Icehog owns stock in this brand is buying them all to drive the price up over $8.00 a stick again. :r :r :r Damn you Tom. :r :r

[Thread Jack]

Someone saw fit to send a box to me for the troops. I wouldn't send the troops something I wouldn't smoke. They are resting peacefully at the landfill. The point is with the reputation (or lack thereof) that these particular cigars have why would someone send these to the troops?

(No reply wanted or needed. This is way off-topic. Sorry to thread jack Darrell. Reading this thread prompted me to finally say something about this.)

So someone decided that they were going to donate some cigars, without asking anything in return, for the troops. And after buying the cigars and sending them to you, you tossed them in the trash?

While they aren't the best cigars out there--hell, they aren't even close--some people like them.

I don't think that's the best way to encourage donations.

You should smoke one, I'll send you one.

:tpd: If nobody liked em then they wouldn't be in business. Send all you can to the Troops and let them decide what they want and don't want.

I'm sure I'll think it's terrible. But that's beside the point. Someone tried to do something nice and was told, for all to see, that the effort was wasted and unwanted or not up to standard. Either way, it probably didn't make them feel too good and might keep them, or others from sending in donations.

I have 4 of 5 (I did smoke 1, and yes the whole thing :pu) resting in isolation along with some Thompson house brands for a lucky suka who wants to taste test one some day :D

:tpd: :tu

Plus there are just way too many good 1 to 1.5 dollar a stick bundles out there that are very good smokes. Were not talking about simple taste differences here we are talking about a wet infants diapers rolled into a cigar.

Chas

PS - Are they still rolling them anyways or just selling off whats left?

I agree my friend, 100%. I stand behind Fred and his statement. It would be one thing to send something to the troops that maybe isn't a great smoke, but smokable. Cremosas are NOT smokable. This time when lit they smelled like burning salmon and trash, last time it was plastic and turpentine.

Your points are well taken. As an aside, anytime this happens (choosing not to include a donation) they are replaced. I have asked that donations be quality over quantity. Someone once said that donating to the troops was something that some do only because it was popular and not as an affirmation of there service.

I once sent 68TriShield 450 bundled cigars because it was the most quantity I could buy for the dollars. I didn't think about quality. I only thought of quantity. A few guys educated me about this difference and I quit doing this. This meant fewer cigars, but they were better cigars. (And yes, better is relative.)

I suppose one could feel bad or they could learn and go on. I would guess that many of the troops who smoke these donations wouldn't know what many of us would consider a "good" vs "not so good" cigar. That's not the point. The point is knowing that you sent the best you could afford, even if its only a few. Then, I believe, you can walk away knowing you gave your best just as they do. :2
