Jr Alternative Cigars

are these babys worth buying...or is it like the saying goes....u get what u pay for.

My experience with JR's are that they are a good smoke, but don't expect all of them to be consistent. I ordered a bundle of Montecristo #2's and some Hemingways. Both were good overall, but the Monte's had a few plugs in them not even a draw poker could fix. From both bundles, some were constructed better than others...so I guess you do get what you pay for.

Just my :2..

JR Cohibos!

I just bought two bundles of their alts, the JR Cohiba Esplendido, and their version of the Rocky Patel Edge torpedo.
I'm smoking my first JR Cohibo this evening, so I guess I'll find out.

I've been wanting to find Legal Cohibos, and I just happened to stumble upon these the other night.

Now if only they came in Glass Top boxes....

half & half, if you smoke them when you buy them there a bit rough, let them age and they and be a decent smoke.

I have not had much luck with the Alternative line, but the Limited Edition line....which J&R currently is sold out of because of leaf issues....is one of the best smokes I have tried from them!!! Even Savor the Stick....who I gave one in the PIF pass loved them as well. I was told by the J&R staff that these babies are expected to make a return in the near future. I would certainly recommend picking up at least one to try, but at the time that I bought a bundle, they were only like $20-$25 for the bundle of 20!!! Not a bad deal at all!!! :tu

I would say try using search, but JR is unsearchable (words w/ less than four letters are unsearchable).

Many discussions about JR alts have been done here.

Most people here say don't bother. I like the Alt Cuban Bolivars and the Cuban Cohiba Siglo IVs. I've had others that were dog rockets (don't know what type they were). I hear the Rocky Patel Vintage 90s are quite good too.

Other than the three alts I've mentioned, I don't know whether others are good or not. It's kinda like a crapshoot.

I just finished one each bundle and came back to report my experiences. The Cohibo was good, surprisingly good in fact, and the "RP edge" Maduro torpedo was even better!

The "Esplendido" was well constructed, and even had a triple cap. It burned arrow straight, and the ash held on for a good inch. Flavor wise it was nice and full bodied, straight up tobacco flavor with hints of cedar and leather. The wrapper tasted like corojo, but I can't be sure. It didn't get bitter or harsh either. I ended up smoking it to the nub.

Later I tried the RP Edge Torp. On removing the Cello I noticed how oily and dark the wrapper was. It almost felt like leather. Flavor wise it reminded me very much of a Sancho Panza Double Maduro, but a little stronger. It also burned straight and had a really white ash that seemed to hold on forever. This was by far my favorite of the two. Liking it as much as i did right off the truck, I imagine that some time in the Humi could make it even better!

Of course, take this with a grain of salt. I'm not even close to an experienced smoker and have never tried the real smokes these are based on.

The JR ULT's I can't get enough of :tu . I have been through too much of the alt. line as I was told they are too hit or miss. I was gifted some of the Monte C's and loved those. I just wish they would come back in stock.

I have a few Alts that have over 10 years of cooler time on them now. Various shapes, sizes, and namesakes. I smoke one every now and again.

I can say this without ANY doubts. Time has been VERY VERY good to them. :tu

The regular line is crap, but like NJ Stogie King said the EL line is a tad better. Don't get your hopes up about a life-changing stick, though, at best it's a yard gar.

I have JR alt. Monte no.2 & Cohiba robusto. I have smoked about 5 of each one hoping they would get better, IMHO they are horrible they burn uneven and from the first draw they taste like a 2 day old re-lit cigar. I have taken them out of my coolerdor. I would send them to someone but I would be to embarrassed and for the price of shipping you could probably just order new ones (they might be better). oh and they were in my cooler for about a year they were the same new and aged. this is my :2

I tried a bundle of the Padron ANNI. last year I think. They were ok to say the least, but I won't be buying any more. Padron ANNI. ALT, I think not....

I haven't tried them,But I had a friend who had some and when he cut the cap off of one he found what looked like a feather.

Bought them, smoked them, wasn't overly impressed by them, would smoke them if they were in front of me, but won't go out looking for them.
