Just getting started

Chubno

Young Ape
I'm very new at this and I've just finished reading through the beginners guides (very good) and I have been looking for a deal to get started. I've found a deal at cubancrafters for a humidor and 15 cigars. Is this a good company and deal?

Looking forward to starting
:)

I don't know much about them....others will....My only advice...and I really mean this....Get a big humidor.... 100+ minimum ...or you will end up like me with a bunch of full small ones.

Welcome to CS

Cuban Crafters is a great company with amazing service. My first purchase beyond a single was a CC humi and cigar combo. Many of the other guys around here started the same way. Like most companies they make some cigars that are great, and they make some that don't fit me. I would definitely recommend getting a sampler or combo from CC. Is it the combo that comes with the Don Kiki cigars?

Oh, and welcome to CS!!!

If you want to PM me your addy, I may have a little something for you. ;)

Also check JR cigars. They might not be popular but their prices are awesome and they sell 5 packs and samplers.

Welcome to CS Chubno! You might like the Holt's Holiday Sizzler <== click here! It's 25 cigars (I can't vouch for 'em all, but I love the RPs), and a 50-count desktop humidor for $98.95. But, it's like JPH said, 50 might sound like a lot right now, but just you wait. :r Let us know what you decide upon. :)

Welcome....

For getting started and finding a few good deals you might want to check out the devil-site, a place you can bid on cigars. I'm not sure If I can mention the site or not. There is an incrypted message in this post. hint red....

Welcome to the Jungle!!! You may want to take the advice of the other Gorillas here, and go with a bigger humidor than you think you need. Also, most humis will say 50 ct, 100 ct etc... They usually do not hold nearly that many though. Glad to have ya here!

I have picked this one up at CBID.com for $40. That is the best price I've seen it go for - there is one or two other combos like it. They don't come up for auction too often anymore.

Pretty good intro to some decent smokes. Humidor is OK, but you will surely (like all have said) want a bigger one. I wouldn't rely on this one for good smokes. I had to do some engineering on it to help with the seal - it is good now. The humidor does not come with a hygrometer, but I check it once a week or so with another hygrometer and it is fine - stable, in the mid 60's RH.

FWIW - Cheers,

don't even waste money on a humidor unless you are dead set on getting one. Get a cooler and some beads and then start bidding on boxes over at the devil site...welcome to the jungle. As far as the slope goes, as soon as you registered here you waived all rights you had over your credit cards, mortgage, etc...have fun goin broke but smoking great stogies!

Got the love the virgins. :r :r He has no idea what lays ahead. Welcome to CS bud. You'll love it here. :w

Chubno, you sir are standing at the top of a triple diamond black slope. I hope you have your bindings tight!!:D

Welcome to CS.

BTW I wouldn't worry about a humidor too much, get yourself some beads INFO on BEADS and a good sized tupperware container to put them and your smokes in. Hang out around here and smoke a few gars, pretty soon you'll have a better idea of what you'll need... then buy something 5 times that big.

Don't listen to these people, buy yourself a nice humidor first so at least in the beginning you can pretend this is a hobby and not a sickness. :r

I would definitely get a humidor that is at least a 100 count if not more. They don't hold as much as they say they do. :hn

For my first humidor I bought one with a glass top and I am really glad I did. I still enjoy looking at the cigars and can read the humidity through the glass. That is another important note, definitely pay extra and get a digital hygrometer (I really like the Western Digital III), the analogs are pieces of :BS.

Then if you decide you want to get another, definitely go BIG. Either get a 500 count humidor if you still plan on buying singles or go with a cooler for boxes.

Welcome to the jungle.

I hope we're not freaking you out Chubno. The guys who're chiming in have got the bug real bad (and I don't mean the tobacco beetle). Don't let 'em scare you off. There's a lot of really solid advice here though. I learned the hard way. It took me years to finally buy a humidor, but when I did, I took the advice of guys here a CS, and got a bigger one than I thought I needed! I bought a beautiful 75-count humidor! :D :r Well, I quickly out grew that, and now my 18-bottle wine coolidor is nearly full--and I'm still a newbie! Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that you should probably do as these gorillas say, and get a 100-count to start. Who knows where it'll go from there? Maybe you'll find that's all the room you need. ;)

Oh, one more thing, for controlling humidity, nothing beats humidity beads from Heartfelt <== Click.

Most importantly, enjoy the slope! :w

WOW, I would agree! You guys have given tons to think about and to check out. I think I'm going to like this. I was given a Big Butt cigar and enjoyed it so much that I thought I would check out others.

Thanks again :)

:tpd: Actually, forget what I said about the 100-count. This post by okierock is spot on.

P.S. What's a, "Big Butt cigar?"

My advice as well is to go much bigger than you think you need.

If you want a real cheap way to get started, I used glass jars. The kind with a latch and a rubber ring. I bought one that could hold about 30+ cigars at Cost Plus for about 6 bucks, and then used a Humidipak, which set me back another 4.

It works, it is small and then if a few months when you decide you are as warped as the rest of us, you can get a big un.

:)
