King B - Fuente

wharfrathoss

old man down
i've heard a lot about these & my local got a box in so i grabbed a couple-they've been sitting around 64% for a month, figured i'd fire one up tonite-these are part of the chateau SG series, supposably a little fuller bodied-think i paid around $8 ea-anywho, here's the results

prelight taste - like a chateau SG

1st 1/3 - started off tasting a little spicy, earthy

2nd 1/3 - draw tightened up, got sorta bland

last 1/3 - got sour, purged, didn't get any better-let it go about 1" left

ash - flaky outside, solid inside, gray & white

burn - wavy, not so bad i had to correct, but not staight either-thick black
burn line

overall - this was the 2nd fuente in a row that got bland around the 1/2
way point (the 1st was an opus robusto)-not sure what's up w/that

conclusion - at almost 2x the $ of a chateau, stick w/the chateau-never had
a problem w/burn or flavor & the chateau is fuller bodied

Personally I think these are a very fine stick. Not sure what the problem was with yours but I have never had any problem with them getting bland. Maybe they will be better next time.

I'll agree, I wasn't impressed with mine after the first half. The beginning was like a fuente SG, then it just tapered off. I would rather have bought 2 smaller AF SG's and smoked them at different times.

I am not the biggest fan of these...I do not like either the sour flavor or the constant attention that is required of this stick...I did enjoy the review!

Throw me on the 'not a fan' pile as well.

I've only had two, but both examples were such that I would not go out of my way to acquire another. I was waiting for something to come that never did.

Now that I'm thinking about it the first examples wrapper exploded at the 2/3's mark. It developed a bit of a bulge, then it cracked and lifted away from stick. Called it an evening at that point.

Wow I must have got a great box then because the 3 that I have had were great. I never had any burn problems or a sour taste. I thought it was a good smoke.

I really like this stick but have had a few with draw issues, the cuban belicoso is less expensive and not that much smaller and consistently great

Its something that i do collect on a time to time basis. I've read that they have a lot of issue, to my experience I have not had that experience (knocking on wood). They tend to be a little peppery at the start, go into a smooth full bodied, then collect some peppery deepness at the end.

Good review, hopefully your get to more thoroughly enjoy your next one.
