La Aurora Preferidos 1903 Edition Robusto Ecuador

So the name of this is a bit of a mouthful. I must first take this opportunity to give thanks to Silverfox to sending me this in a Newbie contest I won a while back. I have smoked many cigars lately and some of which probably deserved a review but this time I have no choice but to write one. This was my first La Aurora. I am a fan of the robusto size as it takes me just around an hour to smoke so that I have time in the day to do other things.

Construction/ Appearance (4/5): this cigar was well constructed and looked good. One thing that I found odd was the number of sun spots (or curing spots as they may be) on the wrapper. There may be one or two on a cigar every now and then but this one had many more (5-10... I didn't count). Oh well not really a bother.

Draw/burn (4.5/5): this cigar had a great draw and perfect amount of smoke. Not much else to add. The pre light draw didn't hint at anything very distinctive other that a nice balance tobacco taste. The burn was razor sharp all the way, this really added something to the experience.

Flavour (4/5): I don't know what it is with me but for some reason over the past few weeks the first half an inch on my cigars has been rather harsh. I don't remember it being like that in the past. I am trying to figure out if there is something that I can do to fix this problem that I am having. Anyway after the initial harshness we got into the body of the cigar. This was not a smoke that I wanted to like. The La Aurora line is a little pricey and this was something I wished to have chalked up as a generic DR cigar. I did however enjoy this cigar. It had something of an old Charming flavour to it. It made me feel like I should be sitting with men dressed in 3 piece suits and pulling pocket watches from their vest pockets. It was quite enjoyable. There was a nice balance tobacco earth flavour through the stick. It was something that I am not used to in the past few DR's that I have had.

Overall. Given the chance I may buy this cigar. Not a whole box of them but a few to put away when I am looking for something different. It wasn't a cigar that made me say wow this is really good. But it was a cigar that allowed me to spend some time relaxing in the park after a long day. :tu
