LGC Wavell Natural

BlackIrish

ChestBeater
The cigar:
La Gloria Cubana Wavell natural (5x50)
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra
Filler: Nicaraguan and Dominican

Humidor time: 4 months
Smoking time: One hour

Prelight:
Smooth natural Ecuador Sumatra wrapper, dark caramel in color with a dull sheen. Well filled, with no soft spots. Whiffs of barnyard at the foot. Cold draw was just right.

Burn:
Lit perfectly, burned evenly until about the last third when it needed some touchups. Nothing serious, and not a distraction from the enjoyment. The ash was medium gray and firm, with no flaking. Generous draw, and lots of smoke.

Flavor:
Some soft pepper at the start, with caramel in the mix, too. Medium in body, I'd say. Finish is relatively clean.

Flavor is good, but not a great deal of complexity. The core flavors are tobacco, leather, with some peppery psice, and hints of sweetness. Creamy and woody at times. It gets a bit richer and less peppery in the last third. Maybe even the briefest taste of mint and chocolate at the end?

A very good cigar, IMHO, particularly at its price point.

Thanks for the review. I enjoyed a box of these a few years ago and this makes me want to grab another - good smoke for the price.:tu

Cool. Thanks for the review. I just picked up a fiver of these and really didn't know what to expect. :tu

So far, I'm a HUGE LGC fan.

1 - Serie R #4
1 - Figurado Felicita
5 - Serie R #5
4 - Wavell natural robusto

And not a bad one in the bunch. I think the R-5's have been my favorites, but I have liked all of them, and smoked them to the nubs. Great burn, flavor, and construction. I'm still a novice, but I will make sure I always have some wavells in the humidor. I like having some variety, but sometimes I'm not in the mood to be... challenged. I want something that I count on for a nice, relaxing, pleasant, reliable smoke, and the Wavell provides that in spades. I'm looking forward to some Maduro versions that are on their way, just for comparison.

Good review. I agree with Blackdog, the Wavell maduro is really good. A great everyday cigar and the price is on target.
