You also mentioned asking about the insides, well, let me put it this way, there's only a few people who'd bet their finger vs. $1,000.00 that there cheap lighter will light the first time, 10 times in a row. A Dupont or Dunhill owner would probably take that bet...

Funny, I had that silver one in my watch list just for the hell of it.

Ok, then where would a guy go to get the best deal on a legitimate DuPont lighter? I have no need for fancy stores or "quality sales service" to stroke my ego. I just need to know it's the real deal.

Also, do you know anything about these adapters I see that enable you to fill a DuPont lighter with conventional butane?

Hammerhead - I did a half-ass review on the Xikar executive lighter a few weeks back... It's right here: Clicky...
I guess this is a decent place to mention that after discovering a good way to fill the lighter - it's been decent on gas lately. I get at least 6 sticks out of it now, and it's a solid functioning lighter. I've never had a Dupont or a Dunhill - my new job isn't THAT good. :r
The Xikar is a decent lighter - but apparently it's no Dunhill.
Just my :2

I heard the adapters work, but the butane is dirty and will cause your lighter to need servicing sooner. I like the cartridges, but it is a little work to get a good fill. The lighter has to go in the freezer for a few minutes, and the gas has to be warmed. I put the gas in a French Press with hot water while the lighter freezes.

There are several web vendors that have legit products, but you'll pay either way. If money is tight, consider a used one. You can bring it to a Dupont seller and send it off for the cigar tip.

That looks legit as far as packaging etc. and the guy has 100% feedback.
I don't know the difference between the various lines..check out Dupont's web site.
DUPONT

That looks good, I may put a bid on it too... :w

DUPONT
Yeah, but the part that makes me nervous is where he says specifically there's no refund, and refuses payment via PayPal using a credit card. So there's no recourse if it's a fake.

I love my xtend, got it on cbid for $89...

just something to think about.

I do want a high-end dupont or dunhill, but I can't justify the cost, that is too many cigars or pipes to be throwing at a simple lighter!

ST Duponts

I do not represent any of the sites, merely providing this thread with what found. I would like to hear what ya'll think:

Outside of those, it looks like $250ish is the base price? To the smokers that haven't had the privledge of lighting a cigar with a dual flame Dupont, you're truly missing out; the clank, the flame The silverplate is pretty durable. I see some people carry them with a leather pouch. By the time these lighter are trashed, you'll be lucky to be still smoking...

Hmmmm... is there any way to validate the authenticity of a DuPont lighter by its serial number? If we can find a site to llook up and cross reference the number to a production date, style, finish and possible sales channel, it would give us more to go on.

THOSE ARE BOTH FAKES!....... CHINA......you are better off buying from a Dupont dealer....
If you find one you want PM me...... I can put you in touch with the cigar store I bought mine from.. he is reputable and will probably give you some type of discount... although it may not be too great...I don't know.

Guys, I don't know if you saw my last question, so I want to ask again, just to be sure.

Is there any way to validate the authenticity of a DuPont lighter by its serial number, and if so, how would one go about finding the information? Is there any website to go to, or phone number to call?

I have tried quite a few lighters in my time. I have a few DuPonts and Dunhill Rollgas, but I hardly use them because of the weight and size.

My go to lighters are the Porsche Design PD3 and PD5. These are torch type lighters that IMHO are far superior in design, materials, and ergonomics compared to the DuPont Extend.
A member here named RonC can get you a great deal on these.

The Dupont that I recently purchased was the LCDH Ligne II. Stunning lighter that has the dual flame, but I would use this only on rare occasions.....same with my laquered Dunhill.

So the best bet is to buy something you will use all the time and that is made well with excellent reliability.....IMO this is the Porcshe line.

I didn't get deal on my Dupont, but what's sense of jumping through hurdles to save $50 on a lighter? I always prefer to support a local shop, even if it's a little more money. If they can't sell the lighters, they may stop selling the gas, and it's a pain-in-the-ass if you can't find the gas for a Dupont.

Thanks for the tip Bruce, I have arranged with RonC to have a PD5 delivered. the price is great and the response time is fantastic. I am a sucker for a new lighter and the PD5 with the leather case is all I need right now. I should be good on the impulse buying for another day or two.
I wonder if after getting back to work and actually having an income stream will affect my cycber shopping in a positive or negative way...

For the not so high end stuff, I'd recommend the Tiger Laser Torch. I won mine at a raffle at one of our local herfs. Been using it daily and gets passed around a lot at herfs. I just use Vector fuel and have had no problems. Our local B&M also has a couple of Prometheus Ultimos which seem to work quite well considering how much usage they get.

I went through over 20 Colibris and Prometheus until I started using Dupont Xtends. Never had a problem eversince.
