Alright, as you can see I am new to this site but also to the world of cigars. Went to a tasting today at the local B&M and was enjoying an Illusione ~cg:4~ for the first time. Not sure if it was the strength of the cigar, the fact there were 20 people smoking in the small shop or if I swallowed a little piece of tobacco but after about 1 hour of enjoying it (very tasty and spicy btw), I started not feeling well. Long story short, I got sick. Still not feeling well now. Queasy. Had a decent meal before I went, too.

So is this pretty common?

Yeah, it happens to everyone.

I get this feeling often when smoking a full bodied cigar. The worst one was a Nub Habano. I got cold sweats and I wasn't right for 1 hour.

I don't smoke very often, and I have also had a few times where I got queasy/dizzy after a strong cigar. I've never herfed or smoked where I was surrounded by other smokers.

One suggestion that I have received is to have something sweet (especially chocolate) with you when you smoke. The sugar seems to take the edge off of the queasiness. Now, I almost always have a package of hard candies or hershey's kisses in the house for just that reason.

It happens. I would say that having food in your stomach would help for starters, but, since you did the stick might have been a little too much for you. Sugar always helps in these situations. Next time, try having something sugary near by. For whatever reason, I feel that it helps counteract the Vitamin-N. :2

Sweets huh? I will keep that in mind. I think it was just too crowded in there and I was having a strong cigar. I really appreciate the feed back.

Well, it can be common but in short it is a heavy hit of nicotine.

I remember the first time it happened to me. I was with family and we were having a cook out and I was offered a strong cigar. It was mellow and as I was enjoying the cigar my heart started racing, and I felt like I was going to get sick. Queasy is the term. It took about another two hour before I felt better.

I didn't say anything to anyone for some time and was discussing it with several other BOTL and they had experienced the same feeling. Some did not have any food or they started smoking early, but all had smoked a strong cigar, high in nicotine. Hope that helps. :)))

Doh! Just realized that a bunch of chocolates were in front of me at the bar. I kept thinking why they would have those??? Now I know! :r

Nicotine can get the best of anyone. Don't let is discourage you from smoking great cigars in the future.

when i was in vegas i picked up a cigar at casa fuente. It was there house blend and a delicous stick. when i got home i smoked it well it was my first cigar in a while im a pipe smoker.it was so smooth that i didnt realize it had some vitamin N in it. I came back in the house and had to lay on the couch in a cold sweat i thought i had food posioning or something but when i told my buddy at work he new exactly what had happend. I would definetly have one of these sticks again but smoke it a lot slower hehe.

That's interesting. In June a went to a cigar dinner where there were 30 of us smoking, drinking and eating in a fairly small place with less than adequate ventilation for 2-3 hours. Everyone had 2-3 cigars (HdM and RA) and maybe a cigarillo or 2.

It was a great deal more 2nd hand cigar smoke than I've ever been exposed to. I had to work early the next morning and was expecting to be dying, but I felt fine. Not sure what happened, but I was not even the slightest bit queasy and my lungs felt fine the next day.

However, if I've had a few too many drinks and accidentally inhale once or twice I feel it for a couple of days.:al

Meh, it's fine. I still get sick off of cigars now and then, but I'm just getting into the lovely land of ligero. Oliva Serie Vs never fail to make me sick still...but they're so delicious...I'm doing better though, as you will too. I've moved from getting sick on 3/4 of Lancero to getting sick on all but an inch of a Figurado.

Try doing snuff for a little while...you'll start getting over the nicotine weakness pretty quick ;)

I remember my first time as well. Was drinking whiskey for the first time, mixed with some coke. I was doing alright, felt fine, until i fired up my el rey dumundo(sp?) robusto. that night i fell alseep in the bathroom using the TP holder as my head rest. not a good night. now that ive been smoking for a few years, ive gotten used to the Vn buzz.

Vitamin N can definitely give you some trouble, and it seems to hit me worst when I've done one of these:

1) Not eaten lately (or not enough)
2) Not drinking enough while smoking (water, coke, something)
3) Really strong cigars
4) Big, or long cigars (And a medium/full strength and your in for a doozy)
5) Not smoking regularly (Like if you average 2 per week and end up taking a two week break)
6) Unusually high level of stress

Hope you get to feeling better!!! Keep trying bro!!!

Welcome to Club Stogie!!!

Yup - smoked a 601 Red robusto a couple of weeks ago. Wound up with a tremendous nic buzz which transitioned into the queezy feeling you describe. It lasted for some time, but I was zonked out by bed time. Had really starnge dreams that night too (posted about it on here). It has happened several times, but none quite that bad. Even though I had eaten that night, I've learned that I can count on the queeziness if I smoke on an empty stomach.

My first post or so was a pretty similar lightweight experience... here's the link, you're not alone :)

One of the last couple of posts is a pretty good summary of the advice I was given. One thing I'd add, is don't over exert yourself. I found out pretty quick if I'm sitting and drinking (anything), most of the time I'm fine now.

I was going to say that a little bit of chocolate always helps with fuller cigars and they make them taste great too. :tu
