Little smokes

Anybody buy any tins of small smokes that are worth the money? I have about a 20-25 minute drive to work, and I don't want to waste a full stick on a trip like this. I have bought tins of the smaller La Gloria Cubanas and Carlos Torano Exodus 1959s and found both wanting in comparison with their larger cousins. I know I'm not going to get the same quality smokes in a stick this small, but I would like to find something decent for the morning commute. The La Glorias in particular were a disappointment - harsh and not that great a taste. I expected a bit more from LGC, since their full-sized smokes are among my favorites.

Since switching to good smokes at home I just can't handle Miami Suites (my previous commuter smoke) anymore.

The little Padrons in a tin are good, but another great small one is the Tatuaje Petites, but they come in boxes. Also the AVO Domains in tins are good

I was a Hwy Patrolman for 20+ years that enjoyed a nice smoke after dinner each shift. FEW things annoyed me as much as lighting a nice stick...then getting a CALL.

My solution; decent, but short smokes that could be enjoyed in 20-30 min or so. OR cheap sticks*, if killed before you finished...no big loss.

Some of my favorites; Montecristo 444's, Hemingway short stories, Oliva Serie G Special G a short perfecto in cammie and maduro, Fonseca 2.2's,
Baccarat Connies, Rocky Patell petite coronas. CAO Italia Novello's, Don Lino Kuros,

* CFO's, Sancho Panza Dbl Mads, Baccarat coronas, Don Tomas Cameroon perfecto #1, Gisperts, La Vieja Habana, or most any decent bundle corona or rothschild......... These I try to keep under $2 a stick.

The Sancho Panza dbl mads are $1.80 ea by the box and still a great stick.

You can go small or cheap.

Sancho Panza Matadors...good cigarillos. No comparison to the full sized, but I like them. Cheap, too.

Ashton Senioritas...I actually like the flavor of these more than full sized Ashtons.

A little bigger--Flor de Oliva petite lonsdale. You get the flavor of a full sized smoke and they are cheap enough to toss and not think twice about it.

Fuente Exquisitos are tasty 30 min smokes too.

I like Cohiba Pequenos and Cohiba Black Pequenos.
I'd like to try Padron Corticos, but they're pretty pricey for a lousy little tin cigar.
Ashton has a nice little cigarillo that's not bad, either.
I think FN in MT hit the nail on the head. There's a bunch of really nice value smokes out there. Tampa Sweethearts are excellent, PAM Alts aren't too bad, cfp#7, and Fuente's Casa Cuba Habanitos are good, too.

I'll tell you what.... there are little tatua (whatevers) that are real good... Trogdor has them.... too many Sam Adams to think of the name right now.

PM him and he'll tell you what they are.

I think the little Camachos in a tin are very solid. I have a hard time finding them at a decent price locally though.

orca99usa,

The 5 Vegas Shorties are really good. But I like camaroons. The Oliva Special G is a good short smoke as well. They are about the size of a AF Hem. Short Story and roughly half the price.

I have recently fell in love with the RP Vintage 90/92s. They are called "Juniors."

I am also a fan of the MX2 Daggers.

I smoke Padron Corticos fairly often. They're pretty good, but kind of expensive for a small tinned cigar.

I like the little CAO Maduros and Extremes. I usually keep a tin with me. There are a couple of cigarette smokers at work and I will sometime grab one and step outside with them. I finish mine in about the same time that they can smoke 1.5-2 cigs so 2 will last you the 20-25 minute drive to work. Haven't tried the little MXs but love the big ones

I second Ashtons as well. Those are very nice.

If you want to go with cheap then Thompson has some little ones called Denver Sweets that are 100 for $49.00. I have found them to be a little inconsistent on the taste but over all not bad considering the price and they have a nice even burn. I have even caught my gf smoking one on our back deck. Now if I can get her to drink Scotch I may keep her around.

My dad really loves these little cigars called Roughnecks, also from Thompson. They are odd looking little smokes and are supposed to remind you of the cigars Clint Eastwood smoked in his Spaghetti Westerns. Kind of fun if you grew up on those things like I did.

The last 2 are no where near the quality of the Aston, CAOs, RPs, Olivas, etc but if you are looking for something small that you can smoke 2 or 3 a day, they won't break the bank.

I agree with you on the LGC minis. I love almost all El Credito products but these just don't cut it imho.

I spend most of my little smoke money here:

http://www.atlanticcigar.com/mici.html

Lessee: We have Camacho Corojo Machitos, CAO Brazilia and Italia minis, Partagas Black Prontos, and for a milder break Arturo Fuentes Cubanitos.

The Machitos, Brazilias, Italias and Fuentes are much better with six to nine months in storage while the Prontos are great from day one imho.

I have smoked many of each of these and have found them excellent as long as you puff slowly so they don't overheat.

If you want to acquire a lot of the CAOs you can get better deals on those at the Devil Site (http://www.cigarbid.com) with a little patience.

The La Glorias in particular were a disappointment - harsh and not that great a taste. I expected a bit more from LGC, since their full-sized smokes are among my favorites.

I definitely appreciate all the suggestions, and I will try a lot of them out. I picked up a tin of Carlos Torano Reserva Selectas today, and so far they're decent (but not much more than that). I was going to buy some Rocky Patels, but they cost as much for five as I paid for ten Toranos. I like Rocky Patel's full sized sticks so I plan to try them.

I used to like the Short Stories, but then I smoked the Illusione 68. 20-25 minute smoke, or longer if you're really enjoying it. This is the best small cigar out there. Period.

They won't save you any money though.
