Local B&M ......rude, cocky

Dino, What shop was it?

:tpd: Some of the shops in my neck of the woods (SW Michigan to be exact) the guys that work there only know how to run the registers. Ask about cigars and they will sell you the junk that's marked up twice the price.

Nice choice on sticks. I havn't tried the Maker's Mark, so I'll look forward to hearing what you thought on that one.

Cheers :tu

Havent heard to much on these, saving it for next week , will post back

Dino- If you are ever in the area again, try The Cigar Affair in Maumee. I know of the B&M you went to and if you are like me the online route might be best for you since I live an hour away from any good B&Ms and with the current gas prices, shipping alone might be cheaper than travel costs. Sorry about your experience.

Bad customer service in B&M's is a major pet peeve for me.
I'm lucky that I get to travel a lot and have been to well over a hundred different cigar stores. I find it very rare that the person working there has a good knowledge of cigars.
As others have said, stick to the internet for your purchases. I only will go to a B&M to try a single stick before I pull the trigger on a whole box from the internet.
I recently went to a shop and asked if they had any new brands. The guy suggested a Punch. I imagine the shop will be for rent soon.:2

If I asked for recomendations he would say "whatever you like".
I was in a local B&M browsing the inventory when a man came in looking for cigars for a bachelor party. He was obviously new to cigars. He asked one of the employees for a suggestion. The employee's reply was, "They're all good. It just depends on what you want to spend." The poor guy looked puzzled - and I would have been, too, as useless as this information was. I waited until the employee exited the humidor and I made some suggestions, after finding out that he wanted to keep his spending at around $3 per stick, and that many of the people who would be getting the cigars would not be experienced cigar smokers. I also gave him some tips on how to properly cut the cigars before they were smoked. He left with an Oliva Serie G Churchill.

I hope that his bachelor party went well, and I hope that he becomes a BOTL. I was just aggravated that the employee - who didn't appear to be doing anything useful - couldn't have been more attentive to someone who obviously needed guidance.

Internet...

I'm lucky As I live in a city that has tons of great spots. Might have to drive 30 mins to one but so be it...My favorite (besides Habanos Torres) is Cigar King in Scottsdale.

So true.... AZ is packed to the brim with well-stocked B&M. Just tons of them; many of them damn near warehouse sized.

Cigar King, however, is pure sex. There's nowhere i'd rather be. Selection, environment, exclusives, and the owner is an outstanding individual both professionaly and personally.

I've found a couple places that were arrogant as all hell though; Matchstix for one. I used to buy mostly on the internet until I found Cigar King; which matches it's website prices in-store. I usually only go to the internet for my Davidoff Perfectos and Illusione cg:4 (which I used to enjoy easily acquiring until everyone found out how good they were.....)

there are a good deal of 5 packs out there now and that is a great way to sample different cigars, especially if there is no one local you know to split boxes with. I find that depending on many different factors the same type cigar will taste different at different times.
