Looking 4 up to date list of cigars

ChasDen

Master of the Chasidor
I have been messing around with a few of the cigar tacking software programs tonight and think I will just track what I want in excel. Could someone point me to a fairly up to date list of cigars? I have been looking at the list at: http://www.cigarcyclopedia.com/ and most of the stuff I bought over the last few months is missing from this list. I crossed one a few days ago and forgot to bookmark it. I guess I could just search the mail order sites and make my own list but would hate to type all that stuff out just to find out it already exists.

Thanks
Chas

Cigar Briefcase comes loaded with a pretty heavy list of smokes in it already

Also look at top25cigars.com for a HUGE list...

I would hoever caution you against biting off more than you can chew, I have learned QUICKLY that there are sooooooooo many brands out there with sooooooo many variations that tracking anything besides whay you have smoked is pretty much overwhelming and to a large degree an inane undertaking!

What exactly are you wanting to track? I keep an excel sheet of what I buy, when purchased, size, etc. It actually gets overwhelming sometimes b/c i try to keep a record of when I smoked it also, really don't know why though. But I definitely try to keep a date of when received so that I can tell if it aged properly; and keep the whole thing to see what I have in the humi. Excel does work for that; but what I type under "cigar" is usually what I picked up--and I'm not always sure what that is, so usually use the perelman's cyclopedia of cigars. To bad they don't have online version available, would make looking things up easier.

Excel is pretty much the best. I have used some programs like cigarregistry and others but they don't show you the date you added it to your humi which is ESSENTIAL lol. So I just do a spreadsheet and add an extra tab for trades, and one when I smoke them.

I'm setting up an access database to track the inventory in my humidor and coolidor, as well as those I want to try.

Its hard to believe that there is really not any good humidor software out there now. I mean there are tons of great stuff for my wine room. But I have yet to find A GOOD software for my humidor tracking.

THERE IS: http://www.vaagan.com/cigarbriefcase/

  • Date bought
  • date smoked
  • manufacturer/type (Montecriso white/ RP edge)
  • style (Toro, robutso churchill)
  • ring guage
  • length
  • over all size (large medium small)
  • country of origin
  • picture of the smoke
  • where you bought it
  • price paid
  • 1-10 rating scale
  • all of this info is easy to sort by through the tabs
  • and tasting notes....
  • pre loaded with 200 cigar data base
It is all in one, it is DONE FOR YOU, it allows inventory as well as a graphic of your humidor history, it allows tracking of multiple humidors easily (just a different save file) and it is free!

Seriously, once you have your smokes input (which can take time i admit) it is sooo simple to use, and if you drop inventory of a smoke and delete it form your humidor it will still be under the "My smokes" tab and with a click of a button you and add it back to your humidor!

There are screen shots on the web site which detail the input options, all pull down menus have lots of options!

I agree with just about everything that is being said, there are so many brands (actually marketing ploys as the same company sometimes will put the same stick out under a couple different names to see what market buys it more readily) and variations that unless you are trying to do a "history" a la Ken Burns and Baseball it is just any overwhelming task. Now if you are looking to do a definative history, thats a different story and one that interests me as well. PM if you are looking to do the bigger project.

So far the closest list that I have found that I liked was here:

ftp://ftp.cigargroup.com/pub/cigardb.txt

But its from 1995

LOL yes that is the short cut I was looking to take. Almost everything I have is not in cigarbriefcase. Plus I would like to create a template to print out on a small label to stick on the cigar wrapper.
Something to the effect CI01080001.

CI – Cigars International
01 – Jan
08 – Year
0001 – Cigar#

In excel I can have this number generated into a template by simply creating a series of lookup functions and drop down lists. The hard part is setting it up and entering all the information. I was just hopping to find a cool list.

Did you look at the comparison shopper list? HERE

Yes I saw that list and it is the most up to date but importing it into excel it has too much clutter and missing some info I want.
I do use it to check prices before I bid at c-bid. :ss

I'm sure there is plenty of good software out there; I'm just a bit of a geek who likes to build databases and spreadsheets. ::D

Also, this way I can customize the database fields to whatever I want, I'm not limited to what the software designers provided. :)

For CC's, Trevor's Web site rocks. Check out the lists and many other ways to sort.
