MD now officially smoke free

As of midnight last night I no longer have the freedom to enjoy a cigar in a bar or restaurant anywhere in maryland even if the owner of the establishment allows it.

Stop bullying us, politicians, and stop trying to take care of me! I like cigars, trans-fats, and hamburgers. Sometimes I drive without my seatbelt on!

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I thought we could all mourn together for a sec.

Its everywhere now. Hopefully you live close to a few licensed "cigar bars". In the winter I have to drive a minimum of 45 minutes to have a smoke if I want to pair it with a cocktail.....its a pain.

Thats a bummer, but heck, California has been that way for a while.... The only place indoors you can smoke are at shops that sell mostly cigar stuff. Anywhere else is prohibited.. including bars and restraunts.

This is why I am converting my basement den into a cigar room. Got it gutted...just gotta get the drywall and stuff over to the house so I can actually start.

There are a cigar friendly establishments in DC and VA near me which is a good thing. There are still cigar shops with lounges in MD as well... I highly recommend the Humidour over in Timonium.

Smart man! My next house will have at least a garage I can convert to a herf room.... I hate smoking on my deck in the freezing weather.

This is why you all need to help us get the Cigar club going.
24 hour access so tyou never have to worry if the local B&M is open to have a smoke when the weather is bad

It is getting out of hand. Our freedoms are being taken away. Non-smokers love it but what happens when some one takes away something they like, I bet they don't like it then. If people only saw this for what it really it is, it is not about health or kids, but about freedoms being taken away. We are a free society and the owner of the establishment has the right to choose what they allow. And as a patron, we have the right to either go there or not. It has worked for many years, why change now.

Gah, more smoke Nazis. Next they'll be banning alcohol again, mark my words.

P.S. If any politicians frequent CS, here's a tip: I'd happily vote for a leader with the balls to end the ban. ;)

I bet they won't, cuz although most of them don't smoke, I'm sure most drink alcohol. They only want to take away other people's freedoms, not their own.

Yes, sucks in deed. Four of us enjoyed our last herf at a great bar last night. It's a shame, because I like Red Brick Station, but I won't have much of reason to go there anymore. It's only going to hurt bars, but will likely help B&M's. The Humidour is already planning on adding a members only lounge on the second floor. That place is packed almost everytime I go.

They can't ban alcohol, they make far too much money on the taxes. I'm sure someone could dig up stats that say alcohol-related deaths/injuries FAR outweigh second hand smoke, but why should we start making sense now? I'd also bet far more money is spent on alcohol at restaurants/bars than tobacco products, making the economical impact of a tobacco ban minimal compared to alcohol.

The politicians rob us of more freedoms, and the majority of the country are happy about it!

It's only going to hurt bars

I think I'd be a little surprised to see this happen. In some rare instances, sure, but as a whole, I doubt it. You won't go to RBS, but will you still go to Bolan's for music and a few beers? Would you have gone to RBS if they had smoking but no beer/food?

I'm willing to bet there are more than enough people that will still visit those establishments for the food/booze, despite the smoking ban.

I can't wait to see how crowded the front entrances get now that all the cigarette smokers are kicked outside. I'm going to a bar tomorrow that's usually pretty smoky, should be interesting.

Same here..... its been going on for so long in NY I forgot what it feels like to light up in a bar. I'd do anything to find a nice pub, have a few good drinks and light me up a stogie. I have no other choice but to stick to my "dry" (no alcohol) B&M and Cold garage.

I believe that we as American citizens need to stand up against the strong arm tactics of the government. In regard to the politicians, they forget that "We the People..." stands for something. If we the people do not stand against the politicians and thow the bums out of office with a clear indication of where we stand, we will lose all of our freedoms one at a time. This needs to stop.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous that the ban even goes for PRIVATE PROPERTY! If a guy owns a bar, let him decide his own damn rules.

There is one place which you can still have a cigar with your drink - TITAN CIGAR in Gambrills, MD www.titancigar.com. They do have their liquor license, and are exempt from the smoking ban, and opening up 2 more shops this year.
