This cigar is made by Tabacalera tropical
Full name: Mombacho Thermonuclear Triple Ligero Robusto
Read several reviews on this and felt it was time to give them a try.
Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Strength: Full
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
These run $70 to $80 a box from Lil’ Brown Smoke Shack or you can pay $40 more a box from Holts. Purchased this one from the Tinder Box in Columbia MO for $5.50.
Right out of the wrapper it has the strongest aroma I have experienced from a cigar. Very nice earthy smell.
Lit up nicely, very good smoke volume. Draw was a little loose but with enough resistance to be satisfactory. Initial flavors duplicate the aroma of the cigar. Very pleasant and smooth. Not what I expected since the B&M owner said these were the strongest cigars in the shop!
This is where the nicotine kicked in. A little early for me to be feeling the effects, which made me wonder if I was in for a real butt kicking! The flavor is really nice, a nice mild peppery flavor that is very smooth. There is a touch of salami on the finish. I know that is kind of weird, but it is the only description I can produce.
Burn, draw and smoke is still nice. Spicy flavor comes in and out, very entertaining smoke! The nicotine has not really attacked yet, though you can certainly feel a warm glow!
The last third surprised me. There was a change in flavor to chocolate and coffee. The spice was pretty much gone. A very unusual twist from what you would expect from a powerhouse smoke. The burn on the wrapper did not always keep up with the binder and filler, but this could be because I smoked it right from the B&M. I assume it will do fine when stored at 65% humidity for awhile.
I really enjoyed this cigar. The flavor was great and performance was very good with the exception of the ash which is a little flakey and would fall off at unexpected times! The nicotine never became uncomfortable but it is definitely up there with the other strong cigars.
This is not a refined cigar like the Oliva Serie V or the Padron 1964/26 but certainly an interesting experience.
I will definitely purchase a box, especially at the prices offered at Lil’ Brown.
