Montesino vs. Arturo Fuente

I was curious what other's opinions are on this showdown? I have had both. I like both. They are both made under the same manufacturer. What I find, though, is that I can enjoy the Montesino as much as the Fuente, and it costs less. In my mind, that's usually better. Do people find that there is a significant flavor difference? Or, is it just all about the hype? Sound off! :ss

I was quite surprised when I tried my first Montesino. It's quite a good little smoke. They don't offer nearly as many lines as Fuente does (even though they own it, I believe), but there are some good ones out there. From the price side of things, you can't really beat the quality-to-price ratio of the Montesino. Overall, because of the Anejos and Opuses of the world, I'll have to say Fuente... I wouldn't be opposed purchasing a Montesino or eight!

I find the MS to be a little milder than the regular Fuente lines. For the price (not that Fuente is expensive by any stretch) they're hard to be for a mild stick.

I had a montesino Pyramid a few years back and really enjoyed the sungrown wrapper. It's a really good smoke but I'm still a Fuente whore.

I had thought about adding it to my original post, but I obviously forgot. For discussion purposes sake, we'll just keep the comparison between the regular Fuente line and Montesino. I have no illusions that Montesino doesn't stand a chance against the Opus X's and Anejos :chk

My first box purchase was a box of Montesino Nat Robustos, there were the first hand rolled that I smoked alot of. Still enjoy them! :ss

Yes I'm the moron who is responding to this thread w/o ever trying a Montesino. I am partial to the A. Fuente line (Hemmingway Signature Series especially). This was my first smoke, so it is dear to my heart. Sorry to both Montesino and Montesino lovers out there for not trying your smoke (although I will someday after the reviews i've heard about you). Sorry for being impartial, I just had to put my :2 in, even though I haven't tried one of the two brands.

Has anybody tried the sun grown Montesino's, or the Cuesta Rey's? How do they match up with the Fuente sun growns?

:tpd:

I've never even heard of Montesino but stumbled into this thread because I like AF. Like Andrew, I am a huge fan of the Hemingway Signature...it's all I smoked for about 4 years. I find the other AF's to be a little simple although all are well built. I figure if the Montesino isn't as good as the Signature, why bother?

AF makes the cuesta rey? It was a decent cigar for me (got a 4 pack sun grown sampler) but no part of that cigar is the equal of a good AF. If I'm not mistaken, I think they are about $7+ per? Hemingways are better for cheaper in my opinion.

I have found that the Montesino are generally a little milder compared to the regular Fuente... Same goes for the Cuesta Rey sungrown, although from what I remember the pyramid #9 was :dr

I've really liked the Montesino's I've had. I've only had a couple of the AF's, didn't care for the 858 but loved the Curlyhead... From what I have tried, I would go with the Montesino's...

I had a Montesino in my newbie stage of cigar smoking. It was a nice cheap mild smoke. I'm not into mild smokes but from what i remember, this one was good. Maybe i'll pick one up today :tu

The idiot that I am when I read the title to this post I thought it said Montecristo, after reading further along did I finally realize that it said Montesino. Well well well what a predicament that I'm in. I have never smoked a Montesino and I don't know when I'll have the oppurtunity to smoke one, but someone stated that they are made by the same company that makes AF's. Well if that is true and I'm not saying otherwise, then I would have no problem smoking a Montesino.

But just to keep my pride with my original thoughts, I'm a Montecristo lover, and Arturo Fuente's are very good, however I still vote for Montecristo, any day of the week over AF.

:dr:dr:dr:dr Montesino....I gotta revisit these again. Thanks for the reminder.

As for contributing to the post.... I think they both have a solid place in ones rotation and there are some minor differences in both (AF green label VS MS) mostly contributing to strength. Construction on both have always been top notch.

I'm glad I've become such an enabler, causing scores of people to have to go out and now buy Montesino's. :chkI'm looking forward to everybody's report back on how they liked them :ss However, did I just unintentionally drive up the prices on Montesino's?

I smoke both the 858 and Montesino on a regular basis. They are not anywhere the same in taste, but are both real good. I compare the MS to Macanudo. More taste and $2 less per stick.

I have never tried the Montesino, but after all the positive comments I am going to pick some up.

The Montesino sun growns were/are VERY good(and underrated) smokes. Much better than the other Montesinos imo. However, I'm pretty sure Fuente quit putting the sungrown wrapper on the Montesinos a while ago. The pyramids were quite rich and yummy.

The cuesta rey centro fino sungrowns are pretty darn tasty too.
