This time, from our friends over at Fuente's TampaSweethearts web site. Man, I LOVE online browsing. You never know what you'll see. Like this:

Yes, my BOTL's, check it out. It's a $450.00 ashtray. It's right there. I'm not making it up. Yeah, sure, it's damned pretty, but seriously? This must be for the same people who buy the $3000 Davidoff humidors from Famous. ( http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=187145 ) I have two "main" ashtrays. One was liberated from a bar (not by me), and the other is a 4" plastic flowerpot that I use whem I'm on the porch. Total cost: $0.

It's a whole package deal, now. You can "win" smokes on cbid by overbidding the retail price, put the smokes in your Davidoff humidor, and put the ashes in your Fuente Limited Edition FFOX ashtray. Crazy, man. "Sloping" is one thing, but damn! Who actually buys this stuff?

Well, yeah. Obviously, or they wouldn't bother having them. I'm sure 300 somebodies will eventually buy them all. Collectors, Fuente/Opus ho's, whatnot. I have the collecting/hoarding gene, so I understand the sickness. I'm just saying, even if I won the Powerball, I wouldn't spend any of it on this. Hey, maybe they'll sell enough of them they can afford to have a clearance sale on the Opus, right? HAHAHAHAHAH!!! Hey, it's all good. I just thought it was funny, so I decided to share.
 
It really is a nice piece, but would work exactly the same as the $4 one I picked up at a flea market.
 
I dont own one, but I do know folks that do. I mean, its all relative to what its worth to those that have/want one. True, it works the same as a cheap 2-4 buck jobber.
Just like a Lambo Murcialago will take you to the same place as a Kia will.
Just like a Bic will light a cigar just as a S.T. Dupont will.
Just like a Timex will tell you the same time a Patek Philippe will.

A full intact box of 1492's can go between $10,000-$15,000 for 50 cigars. Thats way out of my league, but theres definetly more than one person on this board that has a box.

The thing that most bugged me about looking at that website wasn't the cost of the ashtray, but the people who add those annoying mouse cursors! :hn

For all those things, I can see how someone could compare the two items and think to themselves, "Yeah, this really is 100 times 'better' than that'. They aren't to me, but I can at least understand it. I just can't see it with something like an ashtray, though. If other people do, more power to them. To me, it's like when I'm in Home Depot and they have a $125 toilet right next to one that's $1200. I'm just going to take a dump in it anyway. Is it going to improve my experience by 1000%, or not? Is my $500 Fuente ashtray going to improve my experience by 2500% compared to a $20 one from CI?

Good point, but if the ashtray was in a $400 per month Beverly Hills smoking lounge it would fit. You would expect things like that. So it's all in your point of view.

Will a $24 Monte Sublime LE really be 3X better than an $8 Monte #2? Will a $12 Ashton VSG Wizard really be 15X better than an $.80 Cremosa? (well yeah, it probably will be, but you get my point)

My wifes uncle Jerry (quite wealthy) recently told me a story... One of his buddies, a contractor, made a ton of money. a bunch of them were out and the contractor says to Jerry, "hey... what time you got" Jerry glances at his Rolex "10:15" he replies.

"Well Sh!t Jerry, your Rolex has the same time as my Timex"

To which Jerry replied "yeah, but when was the last time your Timex got you laid??"
 
Not the most expensive ashtray I've seen, but it's damned cool looking. I remember a few months ago some new member here put up a link for a site that sells ashtrays made of rare woods and certain metals and stuff that were in the $800 a piece range.

I'm reluctant to buy an ashtray over $30...

What's wrong with spending money on something you like? I don't own that particular ashtray, but do have one that cost me more than that. I like it. It makes me happy to ash my Jose L. Piedras in it.

Why would people buy a painting for $5,000 when one from Garden Ridge only costs $9.99. Maybe because the first one is art, looks a whole lot better in the living room, and will only go up in value.

Last I heard, these cigars are going for at least twice that much now--another reason not buying the cheapest thing you can find might not be a bad idea in the long run.

But, hey, if you like swishers and throwing ash on the floor, who's to stop you? ;)
