My first Oliva V

Ok, everyone rants and raves about the famed "V." So naturally I had to try one. I generally smoke med-full body smokes so maybe it was a little to full bodied for me? Or, maybe I was just expecting to be blown away due to the popularity of the series, but overall I wasn't overly impressed. The first 2/3 inch was peppery like a pepin blend which did calm down and mellow out shortly afterwards. It was an enjoyable cigar, but I guess it just wasn't magic for me. Pass me a PAM 64 anyday over the "V." To all of the V lovers here... is my palate off?
 
I have had the Belicoso and enjoyed it very much. I have another one resting. I will let you know my thoughts after that one. Try the "o" as well, it is tasty.

Thanks, I have an "o" resting in my humi. Maybe I'll have better luck there.
 
I enjoy these very much, it's a great 6 dollar smoke. But I've heard of others who don't like the new releases.
 
I've not had a V that I like. Normally, I love smokes with tons of ligero, but this one does not seem blended well for my tastes. Too peppery.

That's the funny thing about taste. I love these but the Pepin JJ, for example, is way too spicy for me.
 
I keep trying these in different sizes and from different sources; and they just do nothing for me. I find this strange because I do enjoy a full bodied peppery smoke and many of Olivas' other offerings. Tonight I am going to give the special S a try.

I feel the V was a victim of the CA rating system. The sheep saw 94 and bought like crazy. They had to scramble to produce more and quality dropped.

Good smoke a 3 by my rating system.
 
I've been smoking the V for about a year now (are they even a year old?) and I've found them all to be above average to outstanding. The dbl Robusto is a little tightly packed and the most inconsistent. The figurado about average while the belicoso has been great every time. My tastes recently have gone to smaller RGs so it's no surprise that my favorite of the line is the lancero. Not sure I'll acquire more but if I do it'll be the lances.
 
I bought a box of the Torpedos about a month ago and found them to be a good full bodied smoke. I liked the peppery taste, seemed well built, and its appearance is outstanding.
 
I know what you mean with these just not being a homerun. There is nothing wrong with them per se but they just don't have any majesty that surrounds them.:2
 
Hmmmm....I smoke a couple of sticks a day....to where I am now jaded. :r But when I toast a V it grabs my attention like few smokes. :ss
