My first ever humidor came today.Just a cheap $40 one that can hold around 15 cigars, lol my collection is 4 so far:ss.Any way when i opened up the packing the analouge humidifier was at 7o percent.I have opened the lid and left and its still at 70 percent.

Is it just a rubbish hygrometer or doe they normally come like that. What test can i do do see if its working?

Look for "salt test" in a search. But, I would probably just get a digital one - you can get one pretty inexpensively. Then, when your collection quadruples -- and you know it will -- you can know they are in a good resting place.

if the salt test doesnt prove differently...maybe the air has a RH of 70% at the moment.
Or if it is like this sitting in your humi, maybe your humi is already seasoned?

I wish the Air here was like that here, unfortunatly its no more than 30-40% usually. Ugh depressing country.. its ok I fixed that with an order of HR beads!

Its about 64 percent.I have set it all up and im just waiting now for it to reach 75-80 percent.

I charged the humidifer and placed a small shott glass with humidor soloution at the bottom of the humidor.

If you want to buy a new digital hygrometer, Cigarmony has offers a free calibration kit certain models. I just bought one and it works well. Your other alternative is the salt test mentioned above; it is also very accurate.

Analog hygrometers FTL...junk.

Does anybody know where I can get 3 or 4 digital hygrometers for a good price? I need one myself and I want to bring my pops and father-in-law into the 21st century.

I think the only way to real realy know is to test it with another one just to see if the numbers are close to the built in one.

If your analog Hygrometer is stuck in one place, it usually means that the little spring has broken loose from its catch and become un-tensioned. The cheap chinese ones that come with your humi usually have only a drop of glue to hold the spring in place. I pried my Hygrometer open, slid the end of the spring back into the catch where it had been glued, and soldered it. It Took five minutes to do, and now works fine.

The humidor I just purchased came with an analog hygrometer and I know for a fact it wasn't working since the Digital one I purchased said so..I'm thinking these analog ones are hit or miss.

It seem to be going up very slowy. Its now on 68 percent. My humi is only a small one as i at college so i cant aford much else.:tu

Good advice to a BOTL! Don't mess with the analog hydrometer, they are mostly worthless. Get a digital Hydro and invest in the beads to control the humidy properly. :2
