Newb looking for help

While I've been smoking cigars for many years now, I hardly consider myself knowledgeable (I just know what I like :D ). I'm especially ignorant when it comes to what makes a good humidor.

I decided that I definitely need to trade up from my Thompson Cigar "Classic" humidor which I bought several years ago as a part of a package deal. Minimum I would like the new humidor to hold 150 cigars and it has to look GOOD! I've got it down to three choices and would love some help deciding. Here are the contenders:

300 Cigar Glass Humidor:

The Napoleon II:

The Versaille:

Aesthetically speaking, I think I like the Versaille best, but the first humidor on the list is probably the best bang for the buck. Of course, it's on back order though.

:blWelcome to the jungle:bl

While I have not dealt with Cheaphumdors.com personally, they dont have a good rep here.

As far as CI goes, maybe look for a Joe deal to save you on shipping.:tu

Cigarmony.com is also a great vendor.:2

You might also want to look at Holts since they are having a liquidation sale on desk tops. I am not sure what sizes are still available. One thing that I have found is that a desk top performs better without glass unless you wnat to spend quite a bit of money.

I have the Versailles model and really like it. When I first purchased it, I had to run a bead of silicone around the hygrometer. It had a horrible seal and lost humidity. After I did that, it's been perfect.

I've had it well over a year now and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

You might look here as well. Tampa Humidor is a very reputable vendor. It's where I purchased mine.

Wow!! That is a GREAT price on the Versailles. I think you may have just sealed the deal. It's crazy though as I've seen this same humidor priced from $150 to $260. I've never seen such a wide variance in price on the same item.

Order away! This is a great looking humidor and I'm very excited to have found it for such a great price.

Now I just have to buy some beads and figure out how the heck I'm going to fill this thing without my fiancee killing me.

All sticks only cost a buck and humis only cost 25 bucks no matter what you pay for them just like shoes are only 10 bucks and purses are 25 bucks for the ladies, its all in how you play the game :tu Enjoy your purchase

You may want to look at setting up a Coolerador. I have a 100 ct. Desktop that I originally got from Cheap Humidors. Worked fine in the summer months but now that it's getting colder and the heat is turned on there appears to be a seal problem. Sometimes you don't find out about seal problems until you introduce an external heat source which will suck the RH% out of the Humi if there is a seal problem.

Anyway, since then I've grown out of the 100 ct. Humi and have set up 2 50 qt. Igloo Cooleradors. These work great in Controlling RH% especially if you use Beads.

Good luck on your Humi setup although I would make sure whatever route you go, the seal is good.

How does one go about checking for leaks? Light some incense and put that inside with the lid shut? Wherever the smoke comes out is a leak.

OMG NOOOOOO!!!!!

Use a small flashlight, close the lid and if you see light you got a problem. There are several stickies regarding humidor setup.

Make sure you use only humidor approved bonded organic incense. You don't want any artificial contaminents found in ordinary incense adhering to the cedar lining. Otherwise you run the risk of experiencing a slight change in the flavor of your cigars.

Let us know what you think of your new humi when you get it. I suspect you'll be pretty happy with it. :tu

Ehh, it was the first thing that came to mind. It's actually a great way to check for air leaks around the doors & windows of your home.

I'll try the flashlight method though. ;)

Good thing this humidor is coming on Friday. I've been going crazy on C-bid this week and I bought the RP 20-pack on Cigarmonster earlier this week.

Remember, it can take up to a week to properly season the humidor. Don't put the cigars in there right away.

No doubt. I just put the 20 pack from CM in my old humi. However, I'm totally out of room in there at this point and I just bought a 10 stick sampler of Pepins from C-Bid. I'll have to throw them in some Tupperware or something while the new humi is seasoning.
