NUB Connecticut 464

Doubt it because "box press" is something that happens naturally in a dress box. It didn't used to be something that torcedors did on purpose. I know that some manufacturers do it on purpose now, but it used to be that "box pressed cigars" were just that. Box pressed cigars resulted from being tightly packed into dress boxes that were nailed shut. The compression that resulted from the lid being nailed shut caused cigars to be pressed. That's why cigars that came from cabinets were always round (they are not compressed like cigars in dress boxes are). What I'm saying is, they weren't rolled that way to make them stand out in a crowd like the Nubs are (the shape was and is simply a by-product of the packaging), hence the "wtf is that?" factor.

That's actually some pretty cool info; I never really knew the origin of the box pressed shape. It makes pretty good sense though. I've always heard it was a preference by the manufacturer. Dang it... now I got a new wrinkle on my brain.

Dude, when you posted this review in top25cigar, you rated it out of 5 instead of out of 10. Right the rating is sitting at 4.33 out of 10. Good job! Haha, just playing.. :cb

Is there a way to fix? Anyway, I'm sure as more people rate these, the score will even out.

:r Freudian slip?

I know...I realized that. I'll have to get with Paul to see if I can fixy. I wasn't thinking when I was looking at the pull down. :gn

Great review bro!

Avo Classic eh? I might have to pick up some of these and try them in the morning/lunch time, my best time of the day for avo's .

Great review, Jimmy! Another cigar for me to try! I couldn't find it yet at the local BM. I might wait for a Joe Cigar Deal!!!

Thanks again for the review!

:tu

Nice review! I, don't typically like Connecticut wrappers but I guess, as you stated, the filler probably overpowers the wrapper a great deal. As far as the cigars are concerned, I guess the hype machine kinda rubbed me the wrong way a bit but I will probably try them. I just thought the premise behind the shorter cigar was ridiculous but we'll see.

FYI, RP did a similar cigar for Nording. The torp is 4x54. You tried that one yet?

Great job on the review!

I just tried the Connecticut 464 last night, and I really enjoyed it. I thought this smoke was on the smooth side, and to be quite honest..it was a perfect burn! I thought the construction of the wrapper was nearly flawless as well.

The only negative is..I wish the draw was a tad better. I guess with so much tobacco stuffed inside..it's bound to be a tad tight. IMHO..with some rest on these puppies..I see these sticks loosening up.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this Cigar get a rating of 90.

Took me 70 minutes to smoke this Nub.

I have the Habano and Cameroon, but didn't smoke them yet.

I would definitely buy this stick again. :tu

I just had another Connecticut Nub, and I take back what I said about the draw. This time..the draw was perfect and the burn was near perfect again as well. I would compare this smoke to the Diamond Crown #5 or Montecristo white rothschilde.

I think this is one fantastic smoke.

Haven't you ever smoked a cigar that was wild but tame?

Complex yet simple?

Spicy yet smooth?

Sweet yet sour?

Nubs are all of those things and more...

Well.... That changes everything! :r

There is an old Tom Waits song...

I had completely written these off as the 'theory' makes me roll my eyes. However, any cigar that relates to Tom Waites is worth checking out! :r

Had my first Nub today, Connie torpedo.

Meh?! Not great, not terrible. Wouldn't knock my mother down to get another one. Smoked for 30 mins or so. Would have been a better cigar if it was about 2" longer....

Not a huge fan...

Finally tried one of these at shack herf in the "pass pass pass".

Appearance: silly, cartoonlike.
Draw: fine, if anything slightly loose.
Taste: on small puffs it tastes like nothing - smoking air. On larger puffs it somehow becomes offensive despite still lacking much taste, and brings on the gag reflex.
Burn: I think other people have commented on weird wrapper splits... I had one as well:

Since the whole cigar is "sweet spot" I didn't hesitate to throw this out after smoking 1/4" since supposedly I had tasted everything I was going to taste.

Conclusion: not as outright disgusting as some cigars, but it really has nothing going for it - goofy shape, super mild yet still unpleasant flavor, and a splitting wrapper.

2/10
