Oliva V review on behalf of dad

Blueface

Sarah Palin is my lover
Gave my dad an Oliva V, the figurado stubby one. Heck if I know its name but will search it out.

Dad passed by my house and gave me his review on it.
I hadn't had one yet. As a matter of fact, just lit one.

He is not one for many words.
His descriptions of smokes are quite brief.
In the style of a 72 yr old Cuban, smoking cigars since he was 13 or so, here is what he said:

Ese tabaco estuvo bueno con cojones!

That is his way (Cuban way) of saying that is one darn good cigar.
Pops cracks me up.
Let's see how mine goes.
Won't be as pleasant as his as I dropped mine on the floor, landed on the foot, and the start is a mess so far but the flavor is truly good.

You have the name right.. Oliva V Figurado.. it's a great stick.. If you like that, I would also try the V lancero, and Torpedo. The V Lancero is one of my favorite NCs

A Stubby Figurado...the V Fig. is a handful. Are you sure, or could it have been the Beli?

I have had the Lancero.
Truly great cigar.

This guy is about 4 inches long and quite a large ring.

Looks like I have the Belicoso.
Actually 5 inches long. Forgot about the part I have already smoked.:r

In spite of my mishap of dropping it and ruining the foot and the rough start, this was a truly enjoyable smoke.
Great flavor.
Great burn.
Found it quite consistent throughout.
I would give this a 9 out of 10.

The Oliva V is one of my favs...a great cigar. The Beli just flies off our shelves at the B&M I work at...it's very hard to keep them in stock!

I'm glad you and your dad liked them :D

Further proof that cigars are, indeed, good for your health. :tu

"This cigar is damn good, and it's got balls!" - Is that what it translates to? :ss

:r :r :r I love it.

Close.
No real translation that I can think of.
Although Cojones does mean balls, the word in that context really translates to a very slang, indecent way of saying that is one heck of a good cigar.
Cubans say that just about anything that they feel great about.

I too am a huge fan of the Oliva V smokes. I've been sampling quite a few different smokes the last few months and these stand out as my favorite by far. I had the beli and the double toro. Both were awesome. Glad you guys enjoyed them as well.

Great review, Carlos. I bet your Dad is one awesome old guy. :tu

He sure is.
You just never know which one you will get.
He is either cracking jokes or complaining that everything hurts (mostly in his mind).
However, a wealth of knowledge, a mentor and a person I sadly know the chances are sooner rather than later, he will be dearly missed.
Reality is his days are getting shorter given his age.
I try to encourage him as much as I can to come over and have a smoke as often as we can.
I want to take that all in to remember him by
Not a day goes by we don't talk.
Not a day goes by (when I am in town) that we don't see each other.

I have been opening his world lately to lots of different brands and cigars.
He has been a Perdomo (for everyday) and Padron (for everyday), with Annis when he can, kind of guy for many years. Rarely stepped out of that boundary unless for CC's.

Enjoy every minute you can with your Dad, Carlos! Life is too short!

Nice Review!

You sound like a great son, Carlos. :tu

Great review... short and to the point. :tu Oliva V is one of my faves, especially the Figarado.

I visited El Rey de los Habanos in Little Havana and bought a few Tatujae Cojonu 2006's; the store clerk mentioned that Cojonu means "man with big balls" or "to have big balls". The Tat lives up to that name.

Best way to describe a good cigar.
