Well, it is about to start...hope there is nothing but cheer and good will for all of the athletes! It should not be about politics, just competition, and I think it should be a great opening ceremony.
 
Mark it should be a great Olympics!! I do agree no politics ! Just hard work everyone!

How cool though a runner from Tully NY where I live is bringing in the Flag for the ceremony!! Pretty wild!!
 
Which Olympic sports are most cigar-friendly? Clearly, the swimming and diving events are out.

Track and Field, out.
Hoops, out.
Soccer/Football, out.
Baseball/Softball?
Air Rifle?

I'd think that the pistol events would be better, since you'd have one hand available to hold your stogie... :ss

Although I'm not entirely sure if nicotine is a banned substance for the shooters? It does reduce tension and increase concentration even with non-smokers, and you'd think that both effects would be beneficial in the shooting events. I do know that beta-blockers have been used for this purpose, but they are definitely banned.
 
I like how the guy on TV said the Chinese aren't ones to boo or be negative during special events like these. They said it about twenty minutes before the U.S. strutted by in their Ralph Laurens.

I only watched a sum of 15 minutes while at work, but what I saw was pretty sweet. How about that lighting? Nice.
 
So do you find yourself rooting for cigar countries like Honduras and Nicaragua? :ss

For one my first time I will really be watching the games. Especially womens gymnastics due to Shawn Johnson. She is a Des Moines Iowa girl and is simply amazing when it comes to the sport.
 
Personally, I lost a lot of interest in the olympics when we started sending professional althletes. The olympics is supposed to be for amateurs. Then there's all the doping. But I'm sure my son and I will watch plenty, so I hope it's a good olympics.
 
The olympics are great and should bring the country together. I went to watch in '96. Had tickets to all the Free Style and Greco-Roman wrestling. Watched Kurt Angle win gold. It was awesome
