Online ordering, poor quality?

I'm very new to ordering cigars online, and I recently ordered 10 Ashton VSG's of various sizes and shapes from two shops online. The packages arrived no problem, however about 5 or 6 of the VSG's have something visually wrong with the outer leaf, ranging from holes to strange clumps on the cap to a loose wrap to the point that it was falling off from the foot. A few from both orders had something wrong with them, so it's not a bad batch from an individual shop (although maybe a bad batch nationally?).

I realize this is an inherent risk of ordering online and not being able to inspect the cigars individually before purchasing, but this is a fairly expensive cigar; I expected much closer to perfection than what I received. Is this a common occurrence in online ordering?

Who are you ordering from?

I have never had any problems. I only have ordered from Cbid and CI though and I've had great results with both of them. :tu

No - it's not common at all. Try contacting the vendors and letting them know that you are less than happy with the condition of the cigars.

Call or write the shop.
A reputable shop will take responsibility and offer replacements or something else to compensate.
If they are just in it for the quick buck, you won't get anything in return and know never to buy from them again.

Care to mention where you purchased?

I ordered a 5-pack from Famous and 5 various singles from Holts.

I've ordered several times from Famous and haven't had any problems. I would contact them and voice you displeasure. Can't comment on Holts as I've been bought anything from them.

I've ordered from Tinderbox.com many times and all their stuff has come in tip-top shape. Before when I was ordering from CBid, all their stuff came in good shape too. Let them know and most likely they'll make it right.

I ordered a 5-pack from Famous and 5 various singles from Holts.

I have bought only once from Holt's, but I am a regular customer with Famous and I have never had a problem from them. Holt's and Famous are both very reputable companies I would contact them and let them know what is wrong.

Holt's has a 30 day money back gaurantee and will pay the shipping back.

I ordered the wrong box on accident and didn't realize until I opened it. They shipped me a new one along with a label to ship the one I had back. I could've even smoked some and they said they'd take it back, minus cost of what I smoked.

I believe FAMOUS will take anything back for whatever reason (I could be getting vendors confused here) I know that every time I have ordered from them they are spot on. CALL THEM

As for HOLT'S..I have never ordered online but go to the store directly so I do not know but like stated previously I believe they have a 30 day return policy.

Famous is a great place for 5 packs and samplers ("build your own) I started out there...............5 months ago :ss

I have had problems with cigars that I have ordered online as well. The cigars that I recevied were very soft.

I order most of my stuff online and I've not had any problems so far. I have order from Cbid, cigar.com, Cigars international, tampa humidor, heartfelt industies, and today for the first time from corona cigar. All of these companys have been great to deal with and only once did I have a problem at cbid and they took care of it right away.

I have ordered many, many times online.... with one, maybe two problems, and both were taken care of to my satisfaction.

Give em a call, things should work out.

I've dealt with CigarBid and CI (one and same) and Holt's. Been very happy with both.

However, I've had problems with JR's. Bought a 5 pack from them about 6 months ago and they were dried out.

When I contacted their customer support they said they don't accept returns on cigars that had been lit already (Ok, I understand that), or that the package had been opened (that I don't understand).

When I asked them how I am supposed to know the sticks are dried out if I don't open the package, their response was basically, "that's your problem, not ours". Needless to say, I'll never order from JR's ever again.
