Opinions on Puros Indios?

I can't comment on the ones that CI has for sale since I'm unfamiliar with them.

For what it's worth, I had a Puros Indios (not sure which line) from 2000 that tasted fantastic. I wish I knew what it was, and I wish I could compare it to a fresh stick of the same marca and vitola, but I really enjoyed that aged Puros Indios.

For the price, these sticks make good yard gars. If they were any more than that, I would not buy them. I take them for what they are...inexpensive cigars.
Not dog rockets, yet not great.

Personally, I've never found a Puro Indios that I've enjoyed. I know some people like them but to me it's just a very bland tobacco flavor with very little taste.

In retrospect that's not a fair comment. I used to really enjoy a Puros Indios from time to time. In fact, I think it was the first box I ever bought. However, over the years as my palate has developed I find myself skipping these when I see them. They are well made cigars and usually sold at a reasonable price. They just don't do much for me personally.

That being said I'm open to trying new blends. Especially if they are more full bodied than before. :2

Just smoked a Toro last night. I enjoyed it, not much to it but it stayed lit for over an hour and had a nice even burn and draw. Maybe you and a buddy go in on this deal. 10 cigars each at a $1.50 what do you have to lose

I smoke A LOT of cheap cigars. My daily diet is Spirit of Cuba's; GR Specials or El Mejor Espresso's. So, let me put it this way...I lit up a Puros Indios, took about five puffs and threw it away and lit up a Spirit of Cuba. :)

I received an e-mail from Cigars International with their special of the week: Puros Indios Reserva Maxima Presidente, a box of 20 for $29.99. I have never smoked one of these, and I am wondering whether this is a good deal. CI claims that these are 90-rated, but I know how cigar sellers are. They can make the worst dog rocket on the planet sound like the tastiest stick ever made.

I am interested in the opinions of those who have tried these.

To me they taste like rotting hay, with a hint of spoiled milk.

For those that were rank, can you describe the smell?

I actually know exactly what it smelled like but I cannot say it in mixed company and retain my gentleman status. I got the PCs from CI and never thought to trade them back in since, in my experience, many times, the nastier the smell the better the cigar :D These did not pan out and it was too far past the purchase date by the time I figured it out, too far for me to feel comfortable asking for any kind of refund.

We do have all new lines that were released this year. They are good sticks. My personal favorite is the new Reyes Family Classic line. I hope everyone will give them a try.

I am glad to hear it, I've always been a supporter of the Maxima Reserva and Viejo lines, they have a very unique flavor profile and I like them a lot.

I have a couple Reserva Maxima churchills in my humi right now and Paulaner Hefeweizen in the beer crisper. I now have a plan for this 100 degree+ afternoon. :tu

Another person that likes PI *and* wheat beer?! I don't feel like such a pariah now :)

Can everyone who has posted send me your address via PM. I am going to get you some samples of our new stuff.

OK then.

:tu

I used to smoke those green label PIs a lot, but at some point, I moved on to other cigars and never looked back. I'm not saying that I disliked them, my tastes just changed, that's all.

But recently I've been able to try others made by Reyes Family Cigars (formerly Puros Indios, Inc.) and liked them. The Cuba Aliados Anniv. 1924 is a nice cigar, as is the Cienfuegos. As to the new blends, I've had the pleasure of trying both the RFC Premier and the RFC Classic and enjoyed them both.

But as to the PI green labels, well, I canna say.

Years ago during the Cigar Boom days the green label PI's were not too bad. When I got back into it again a few years ago I bought a box of the Viejas and was REALLY dissapointed. I still have 2/3 of them aging to see if they improve. To add insult to injury they were about half expensive to boot!!

There are many, MANY better sticks out there ........ I'd pass on the PI's.

Frank, knowing how similar our tastes are I definitely trust your judgment. Thanks to all who responded to this. The consensus seems overwhelmingly tilted toward passing, so that is what I am doing.

Gentlemen,

Although your assessments of our Puros Indios line of cigars has not been 'gentle' by any stretch of the imagination, I cannot argue with your opinions. As a matter of fact, the beauty of the cigar world is that one man's treasure can definitely be another man's trash. As a manufacturer, we never like to hear insulting remarks about our cigars. We value and welcome your input and that is why we are very active on various online forums. Justin, one of our representatives, offered to send samples of our new blends to those of you who chimed in on this thread. The offer still stands. I also feel that unless I try a particular cigar, no one can tell me in a definitive way, whether I will enjoy the cigar or not. Plain and simple, a big part of the 'fun' surrounding cigars is constantly trying new stuff and not having to break the bank while doing it.

That being said, our company has undergone some big changes within the last year. One of those was the promotion of Rolando Reyes' Grandson, Carlos, to company president. Given control, Carlos created a couple of new blends under a new company name - Reyes Family Cigars. I'd love to hear feedback from you guys regarding these new cigars. Please email me your address & handle.

Got an email back from Frank Santos. He took care of me and we had a good exchange in our email. Seems like a stand up guy

Just got my cigars from the Reyes Family. Frank Santos hooked it up. I hope anyone else who got these cigars enjoy them and if so let us know what you think. I have them in the humi right now.

We have a rep from the Reyes Family who's offering to send new sticks in the mail to all that feel they were "wronged". THAT is great business.
