Opus X Perfecxion No 2

I picked this stick up a year ago and have been saving it for a special occasion. After a recent beetle scare I figured a night on the back porch smoking with the wife was reason enough.

The construction was impeccable, nice and oily, no veins, fairly firm. Pre light draw was very clean. This cigar lit easily and kept an even burn throughout.

It started out rather smooth which was nice considering it's partner, which was smoked almost immediately after purchase, was fairly harsh. I have been smoking mostly cubans recently and have grown accustom to the smooth complexity that most bring to the table. My initial impression was that the cigar was nice but nothing to write home about.

At the half way point this cigar came into its own. It developed a complex balance of spice and sweetness. It is hard to put into words but my best attempt is that it is woody/spicy/sweet all rolled into one. This is an awesome cigar and I would highly encourage those who have been fortunate enough to acquire an opus to put it away for at least a year to truly get the most out of it.

Well said:w These are excellent cigars when afforded the chance to come into their own.

Thanks for the review Chris. I've had this same smoke sitting for a little over 2 years now. I think I'll light it up this weekend.

Tried one of these over the weekend.

Very smooth, uncomplex taste to begin.. developed into something more intense later on. The smoothness is deceptive because this cigar is a pretty strong one. After 3/4 through my head was spinning.

It's not worth the price tag even at retail, but a good cigar either way.

This has been my personal favorite for years. These are incredible smokes. Wait till you have one that hits the 5 yr mark. WOW!

Agreed on putting them away for a while. It seems that a year or more reduces some of the spicy sting and adds some sweetness. I have a few of these stashed away for 1.5years so far, once the boat is in the water Ill be breaking a couple out! Thanks for the review - even now these same flavors are present.

I've had the chance to smoke many OpusX over the years. When I first got them I thought they were fantastic....then I slid over to the dark side, and became less enchanted by the OpusX. Although I completly agree that when left alone for 5 plus years they really do develop into a fantastic smoke.

Foz, nice review. I smoked a Perf No 2 the other day with seven years of age on it. The cello had a real nice yellow tint to it. I have to say that this was the first Opus to really do anything for me. I am now convinced that aged Opus are good cigars. I plan on writing a review on mine as well.
