Opus X Prices

Maturing Primate
I have been looking around online trying to figure out if I paid too much for 4 Opus X Fuente Fuentes. I got them for $16 a pop! Did I get taken or not? It was my first time having one...not bad. I am still undecided if its worth the hype or not. I was a good smoke though.

The B&M were I got them said it was their last 4 and they only get them a couple times a year. I see some for like $25 a stick online. What is everyone else paying??

Can't really help with what people are paying because I don't have a prayer to get them locally but this is a great resource for MSRP prices.

I've paid close to $16.00 for Fuente Fuentes in the past from a local Tinderbox. While I feel like the price was high, I didn't feel like I was getting taken, otherwise I would have passed on them.

Opus' have quite a bad wrap around here for some reason, but I think they are pretty damned good and worth around the $13-$16 they cost here. Although when I am in a premium mood these days I am reaching for the Tat Black or the Ashton Cabinet. :2

Eleventy billion dollars.

:tpd::bn

On a serious note I can't touch a Fuente Fuente in Colorado for less than $13.25 a stick I believe. If I can get them for around that I am feeling pretty good about myself lol... MSRP is a myth with the lovely cigar taxes in Colorado.

Very few stores will have cigars at MSRP. However there is another price that is given to the dealers. It's the recommended price to sell according to the manufacturer, for example, if I were to buy bottle of wine for $15 from my supplier, they suggest to sell it for of upwards of $50 or more depending. $14 are the price for those given by the manufacture....I could be mistaken don't quote me on any of this =)

I realize that MSRP is a myth for most people, but it seems as if there is a thought of the enchanted unicorn surrounding the Opus X.

There is a shelf or ceiling to what everyone would be willing to pay for every cigar. For me, Opux X fall into the category that they are worth MSRP or slightly more, not even close to worth the 2 X MSRP that is sometimes charged online and even on boards like this one. Personally I wouldn't actively pursue Opus that are above MSRP from anywhere, but, I realize everyone is different. :2

While I realize that some people are forced to pay more for the goods initially than others, I think people need to be aware of the fact that the prices that are out there are made because of the exclusivity and availability of the product, not because of the product quality/taste/name. I feel like people, even ones on this board, get caught by the 'Opus X' trance and will do whatever, financially or otherwise, it takes to get them.

The point of the post:

Don't rush to grab Opus X just because they are available, there will be a time when you can find them for the 'right price' that you are willing to pay without having to pay twice MSRP or more. It may be hard to find, but not impossible. I guess it comes down to having the price point in your head and sticking to it. :tu

In Michigan we have 32% tax on tobacco products plus 6% sales tax. Add that to the premium places get on the Opus and it's crazy. The prices I see around this board are heaven compared to what we have to pay here.

I do notice that you snag up just about every sale on here of Opus X and Anejo, you must like those little buggers a lot :tu

Here's some info I think can help. Opus X are sold at regular SRP by ALL Opus X dealers. We are not allowed to sell them for more than SRP. If a vendor is selling them for more, chances are that they DO NOT have a direct account with Fuente. As I said, Fuente doesn't allow us to sell them for more. These retailers selling them for 1 1/2 or 2X what they are supposed to be, are probably paying retail for them from other Opus dealers (not me) and reselling them. When we have Opus in stock, I sell them for SRP, but I have to limit the amount any one person can buy. This is done out of fairness to my loyal customers who purchase ALL kinds of stuff year-round, but would also like some Opus when they're available.

My B&M had about 8 opus X Fuente Fuente left he said out of the whole county these were the only ones left and there weren't any shippments planned for the year $27/each, yes I bought one. I'm in New York we are taxed like crazy, a pack of cigs is about $8.75 now. I read online that there was only one shippment of opus X bacause of floods and they don't want to deplete the inventory by over shipping, so I guess my guy was telling the truth. :2

$16 isn't a horrible price. A bit higher than I'd go, but not much. You didn't get taken IMO.

Also, when you look at the MSRP on Moki's site, remember that those don't include state tobacco tax or sales tax.

Decent Opus prices here when available. I think I've been paying about $12 - $14 for the Fuente Fuente (5 5/8 x 46) and Belicoso XXX (4 5/8 x 49) here. Seems really low compared to most places.

Splitting my time between NY/NJ, I feel your pain. After taxes and mark-ups, I rarely see an Opus for less than $20/stick. Makes Tatuajes seem like an absolute bargain!

$16 is a little high but i've seen them in the $19-$24 range. for the #4 sould be about 12-13 max. you can take a look kackschwartz.com to see a fair price on all the sticks but they never have in stock. i get lucky, my b&m call me when they come in to give my pick of the litter then %10 percent even on single sticks.
