Hi all,
Very serious question......
A cigar mentor of mine gave me an Opus X Reserva D' Chateau that has been very carefully aged for 7 yrs, and I gave him a fresh Opus X Fuente Fuente.
Question is ..... Do I smoke it? when?.....

It is a shame that such care was taken to age this masterpiece, that it be smoked before its time.....

LOL such problems I have.........:ss

I think it depends on how long and what sort of cigars you have been smoking and whether you are really ready to experience as complex a cigar as this one could be if it was aged carefully. If he is indeed your mentor he must figure you will appreciate it.Its axiomatic you can't taste them in your humidor ,but once the flame hits that foot there gone forever. Personally I would put it away and just enjoy knowing I had a special cigar I could enjoy when the time was right! :ss Jerry

Wait till you have a couple of hours alone and light it up. When you are done let your "mentor" know what your thoughts were. He did not give you an aged cigar so that you could age it some more. He wants you to smoke it.

Aged seven years !!

Smoke it, that cigar will be excellent.

There are a lot of estate sales and autions where you can snarf up interesting cigars that once belonged to rich, dead men. Few of them planned to live forever but, sadly, they saved cigars for their children to sell. I mean - how weird is that?

Unless you're a collector of (somewhat) above average cigars I say smoke that thing. :D

Back to you, RPB.

Agreed

after a life threatening experience earlier this year, i realized if i died my old lady would some good sticks w/no idea what to do w/them-figured i'd start smoking the ones i'd set back as too expensive for a daily smoke-since your friend has been kind enough to age it for you, smoke up!

Unless you plan on collected cigars, you must smoke that baby, however, plan this well. Make sure you have at least two hours so you can smoke it slowly to appreciate it's complexity. Wait for a great day, if you plan on smoking outdoors and have you favorite beverage available. when everything is just right, plant your ass somewhere comfortable, fire that baby up and enjoy the ride!!!:tu

:tpd: he said it the best

In general, no one will give you a cigar to age, that would pointless unless they said explicitly to do so. Part of the enjoyment of giving a cigar is the recipient's critique. Just smoke it and let them know how you liked it or not...

That was a great gift...........like any gift, it is to be unwrapped and smoked with appreciation and thanks back to the original owner.

Thank you all for advice. This baby is gonna get smoked TONIGHT at about 3am(7/24/07). I have a couple of hours to smoke this and I brought a camera to take a couple of pics. I will post them this afternoon.........

Ahhhhhh,
Its been since 4:15 that I took my last buff of a lil over two hour smoke. I still taste the drip in the back of my throat. You know that drip that you only get from a hell-of-a smoke. I have smoked many Opus X(not the Reserva D' Chateau, till now), and I have found that common peppery taste.......NOT this one. OMFG, what a smoke.
Very smooth, just a hint of pepper. Wonderful drawl. nice white ash. Perfect...9.9/10!!!
When i get home this afternoon I will post some pics.:tu:ss
