Opus X!?!?

Well I've finally had an Opus X cigar! I was on the beach at sunset and wanted to enjoy a high quality cigar. I have been waiting to enjoy this cigar for some tme and have several others resting. I just can's sit down and smoke a $15.00 stick for no reason. (I'm sure I'll catch some grief for that statement). Opus really was not really what I'd thought it would be. I was not impressed and found the cigar to be middle of the pack at best. What are some of your thoughts?
i really liked them the first year or two, but feel the blend changed. they now seem to be more aobut power than flavor.

Give me a Power Ranger.
Give it to me Fresh
Give it to me Aged

Tasty Tasty Tasty.
As for the comment about them being mild mild mild.
Unless you normally smoke sand paper you were not smoking an opus.
Of course that was a joke. I have actually never smoked a cigar I thought was strong but the Opus came the closest.
The fresh ones I truely enjoy and love the spicyness of the smoke and the flavors that shine. The aged ones I have (approx 4 yrs) are very tasty and have mellowed signifigantly.

Of course they may not be for you. Like many I too have had smokes that I thought were going to be great but when smoked I was disappointed (AF short Story) but we all have different palets. Hell I have 3 Opus Forbiddens and I have never smoked one. Am I waiting for a special occasion?....NO. Eventually I'll smoke 'em or give 'em away hahahaa.

Smoke another one. If you dislike it don't buy them again.
One more thing, do not equate the cost to how you think the smoke will be.
Although it is stated here many many times that "if it sounds to good to be true it probably isn't".....but the same does not apply in reverse.
Some can buy OpusX "A"s for $25.00 others have to pay upwards of $80. It's all about the B's

B:ss

I'd rather have an Ashton VSG, and besides, the last guy who tried to sell me an Opus wanted 34$ a stick, not 15$.

Smoked an Opus Robusto, with about a year on, at 8000 ft a couple weeks ago while in Granby, CO. I haven't smoked one since Christmas last year. Though I really enjoyed it, it did not blow me away they they have in the past. I still like them well enough, but what they deliver is no where near the price they go for.

I still have a few in the Vino, but will not be looking to replace them once gone.

I guess that's why Baskin & Robbins makes 31 flavors.
They are hands down my favorite cigar, Cuban or non Cuban.

I have had a few Opus X that blew me out of the water with complexity, flavor and power, and even more that have bored me with one-dimensional, bland mediocrity. It has been nothing short of a crapshoot...age, vitola, whatever. I haven't smoked one for about a year because the last few I smoked did nothing for me. I would smoke them regularly if they were all as good as a few of them have been for me.

:tpd: My thoughts exactly. I've had about 10, 6 of them were phenomenal and the other 4 were just eh. For the price there should be more consistency.

I think that Opus X are a good cigar at best, and that is contingent based solely on MSRP. If you can find these cigars for MSRP or close to it, I think they are worth the money. The problem lies where you find people charging double or triple MSRP (and no, Club Stogie is not immune to this trend), I don't think Opus are worth the $20+ that some people charge for them or the trouble to get them in that way. Opus X have become somewhat of an 'enchanted unicorn' to people, spending much time, effort and dollars to find them. It seems as if people find Opus to taste better because of the exclusivity of them. :2

For a more readily available, and likely cheaper option, I prefer the Diamond Crown Maximus line, which are made by Fuente as well. :tu

I'll be shot for this, but I'm with you. I've had 2 - thanks to those who gifted them. But, IMO no where near the prices they command. And people say the Gurks are over priced???? But, too each his own.

Anyone who has followed the progression of Opus X cigars, from the original release can probably say that these cigars are very different from what they originally were.

I can certainly attest to this - I still have 2 Perfecxion X's from 1999 and they were amazing back then; they seem to be a different animal from the Opus's of late. Still waiting for the right occasion to break into the 2 that I have left...

I DO NOT LIKE ANY OPUS X....they seem, to me at least, to have way too many burn issues and inconsistency in the brand..plus, for the last few years...I have found ALL Fuentes to taste the same...boring...Just my thoughts...save your time and effort chasing down the Opus when you can get Tatuaje and Illusione and LG and MANY OTHERS more readily available for a lower price tag...Just my opinion....

Ditto - the only AF that I really like is the King B - other than that - unimpressed.

This sums up my experience perfectly.:tpd:

At the Opus X price point these cigars should be alot more consistant.:2

For me, my mental state plays a lot in how much I enjoy a cigar. Opus X carries such a stigma behind them that people expect so much. I think all the connotations and expectations behind Opus X cloud judgement when actually smoking one. People expect to get their $25 worth which is probably never going to happen. I smoked a Padron 80 years that was given to me and it was probably the best cigar I've ever smoked. However, if I paid $30 for it I probably could find plenty wrong with it.:2

I keep a drawer full of Opus to gift people as they always seem to be more impressed than I am. I would take an Anejo over an Opus X, but a Don Carlos blend over all of them.

The cigar I had was the perfection #5. It was harse, and the burn was very bad. I chalked up thr bad burn to being on the beach and the gusty winds but now I know that it was the cigar. Cigarmantim was right, Opus X are easy to find in Columbus, which is where I bought my sticks. The $15.00 price tag is by far less than what I've seen online prices, and the B&M is very reasonable. Thanks for the imput and I'll be letting my others rest for a few years!!!!!!

I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again.

Most Opus are fantastic $6 - $8 cigars.

Wait... they cost how much?!?!? :hn:hn:hn

I think if you can get them at MSRP, they're pretty good, but are certainly no where near the premium they command on the open market.

But, economics is a stronger force than my opinion, and I still see the ads in the 'in flight' magazines...

I'll never turn down a free one (even though there are cigars out there that you could not pay me to smoke), but I'd never pay a premium.

Have smoked several dozen Opus cigars, and except for the rare occasion they have been great both fresh and aged, though I do seem to prefer them fresh. That's my :2 anyway.

I actually liked the Don Carlos God of Fire a whole lot more than the XXX Opus I just had.
The wrapper added some sweetness to it that made it unique and complex.
