Our Best and Brightest.

Craving GOF
I had the opportunity this weekend to meet four of our best and brightest young men at my friend's, daughter's wedding.

Word cannot even begin to express the admiration I have for these fine, fine men. Two are in Strikers, one operates the Patriot missile batteries and the fourth is Air Borne.

At least two have been wounded at least twice by IED and or RPG. One has had four tours in Iraq and is trying to pull strings to get back as soon as possible. Two of the remaining three have had three tours in Iraq and plan on going back before the year is out.

I was honored to have the chance to open my Otter box to these men and my only regret is that I didn't know they were going to be there or I would have brought a lot more than the fifteen cigars I had.

I thank God that I had the chance to be able to sit around a bonfire at the oceans edge, smoking cigars, drinking beer and listening to their stories for nearly ten hours last night.

One of the men had a great story about smoking one of Uday (I'm sure I butchered the name) Saddam's cigars and using his green marble toilet after securing his palace.

I am so proud of our men and women, that have, and are serving this country.

One thing that really struck home, is when one of these men said, and without any false bravado, "If I gotta go, there is no better way, or reason to die". This statement was met with a total and selfless agreement by the other three.

I could go on and on, but think it is best that I stop here.

Thank God for our Troops:tu

wow thats cool. ur lucky i wish i could meet some heroes like that. did it make the cigars seem extra good?

Last night, I could have been smoking Swisher Sweets and they would have been some of the finest cigars made.

Another highlite of the night was the bride and groom, (bride in white gown, groom in uniform with Cav. hat) driving off, on a quad.:tu

There was a great time had by all on Orcas Island and one of the best weddings I've ever been to.

As an Iraq veteran now deployed to Afghanistan, I can't begin to tell you how it feels to read this post.

All of us are volunteers. We are HONORED to do what we do, and if this post doesn't spell out why, I don't know what does.

Great and sobering post Ken - Among the many things Americans can be truly proud of - "Those That Serve" (all Branches) are at the very top of the list!

Thank you for posting that story. It made my night :)

TikiHut27, I am so proud of all of you. Stay safe.

Excellent story, thanks for sharing! There's no end to my respect for the men serving this country, and I hope to be one within the next year. Any cigar would've been special, but what'd you smoke?

That's it right there. I forget who it was, but someone on this board once said that smoking was about 3 C's. One of those C's was circumstance. I bet you really could have been smoking anything and it'd have been amazing in that circumstance!

Great story. You know what else? You probably made their days by sitting with them, smoking with them, and listening to their stories. Sounds like a great deal all around. :tu

I really don't remember what I smoked. I can tell you that the Taboo Special Forces (thanks JayCarla for gifting it to me, I really wanted to try that one out) was a big hit. When I saw that these men were cigar smokers, my greatest concern was that they got the best I had and all that they wanted. I smoked 2 in 10 hours.

One of the guys was concerned about the country that his cigar came from. I told him it was alright as long as he burned the evidence.:ss

Take care and have a great week.
