Padilla cigars...

...What's up with new Holts catalog bashing Padilla cigars? They call him a friend, and then kick him to the curb. I don't think I've ever had a Padilla, not sure I'd seek one out now. It seems he lost Pepin and Oliva.

I'm curious to what other thoughts are on this?

Ive yet to get the holts catalog so any chance you can share what was said? Im curious. I actually really like a lot of the padilla stuff. The miami and 32 are 2 of my favorites.

Thank you for the links, I will have to hone my search skills...after reading that I will definitely seek out some Padillas.
...I just will not purchase them from Holts.

Ok quick and dirty.

Ernie P used to be the man, now that Pepin and Oliva are out he's must be on the way out. We're blowing out his inventory.

Direct quote from catalog "Hey Ernie P., we've got one word for you and one word only: Buh_Bye"

Maybe I just get caught up in the marketing hype, I used to watch Wrestling too.

boy that was harsh! I met ernesto a few weeks ago at a nub event at atlantic cigars in PA. He seemed nice, and mentioned he was taking over the production of all his miami based smokes. He felt this would actually up the quality of his cigars since he was to oversee all production now. Itll be interesting to see how this will play out.

I don't read the Holt catalog anymore, but I was on their site last couple days and I saw the bashing. Seems bush league to me.

I am not sure if this is posted somewhere else on CS already, but I would take a trip over to cigarfamily or cigarpass if you want to read more about this. I usually don't post information from other forums, but no reason this has to come up here as well. Not a good situation at all.

Holts has already changed the text in the catalog posted on their website, but that doesn't change all the copies that are going to be arriving over the next couple of days.

The blow-out specials I see at Holts aren't all that special. Of course, I haven't bought any Padillas, but in comparing the prices elsewhere, this is not great shakes. If the prices were for full boxes instead 10-packs, then they might be decent.

So, while there might be bad blood - and Holt's may indeed be slipping a dagger in Ernesto's back - they haven't really cut any prices.

Hey, don't kill the cash cow.

I got the catalog yesterday and after seeing the comments printed there I will not purchase anything ever again from them.

yeah, I saw this and really couldn't figure out what the hell they were doing. They do the same thing to RP by calling the Indian Tabac line a "dud brand". "F*ck You!" was what I said out loud after reading that. And when I saw the "Padilla price slashing" was for 10 packs, I really didn't care for Holt's.

Just got done reading some info on this. I recieved the Holt's cat. the other day and was shocked to read this. Glad I don't do business with them.

After reading the links, it seems that:

A. Getting counsel is a wise move for those in the cigar industry. Contracts allocate risk;

B. Doing business with Pepin is a risky venture.

C. Holt Cigars is not a class establishment.

I've never done business with Holt's. I feel good about that right about now.

agree, totally. a lot of other vendors out there to do business with - and at better prices in most cases. what a tool...

[Edit] - reading some of the back and forth over at one of the other forums linked on this thread reaffirms my decision that i'm in the right place to discuss all things cigars...
